Under the supervision of the Upper School Division Head, your primary responsibility will be to create a positive and engaging learning environment where students can develop proficiency in Spanish language skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing, while gaining an appreciation for Hispanic cultures. This position requires a passion for teaching, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
Duties and Responsibilities Curriculum Development:
Develop and implement an effective and engaging Spanish curriculum that aligns with Tennessee state standards and world language proficiency guidelines, ensuring students are prepared for advanced language study. Establish clear learning targets for every lesson. Build rigorous and aligned lesson plans and assessments that promote language acquisition and cultural understanding.Classroom Instruction:
Plan and deliver effective, differentiated instruction that supports language acquisition and caters to the diverse learning styles and abilities of upper school students. Incorporate speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities daily. Consistently implement high leverage instructional practices and strategies.Assessment and Feedback:
Regularly assess students' understanding of Spanish language concepts and proficiency through a variety of methods, including formative and summative assessments. Provide timely, actionable feedback and adjust instruction based on data trends and student needs.Classroom Management:
Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters a love for language learning, respect, and cultural awareness. Positive relationships are evident, procedures are clear, and the classroom is safe and secure for learning. Student and teacher interactions promote a growth mindset.Individualized Support:
Identify and address the individual needs of students through one-on-one or small group instruction, additional resources, or differentiated strategies to ensure language proficiency and academic success.Parental Communication:
Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student progress, upcoming events, and opportunities for involvement in their child's education. Provide weekly feedback through timely grades. Consistently develop strong relationships with students' families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and/or concerns.Professional Development:
Stay current with educational trends in world language instruction, attend workshops, and participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and remain informed about advancements in language acquisition and cultural instruction. Actively participate in professional learning opportunities with colleagues to improve teaching and student learning. Reflect on instruction while contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school.Collaboration:
Collaborate with colleagues, participate in team meetings, and contribute to a positive and collaborative school culture. Work effectively with other teachers, administrators, and support staff.Technology Integration:
Integrate technology and language-learning tools into the classroom to enhance learning experiences and support real-world language application.Extracurricular Involvement:
Support students in their extracurricular activities and cultural experiences by attending after-school events and, when possible, sponsoring or supporting language-related clubs or activities.Professional Responsibilities:
Be aware of and follow all employee expectations and guidelines as outlined in the employee handbook. Maintain consistent attendance and arrive on time.Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in education, Spanish, World Languages, or a related field. A teaching credential/license is preferred.Experience:
Previous experience teaching high school Spanish is preferred but not mandatory. New graduates with a strong passion for teaching Spanish are encouraged to apply.Knowledge:
Strong understanding of high school Spanish curriculum, language acquisition strategies, and assessment methods. Commitment to high academic achievement and high expectations for all students.Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish to effectively interact with students, parents, and colleagues.Technology Proficiency:
Familiarity with educational technology tools and language-learning platforms, with the ability to integrate them into instruction. Passion forTeaching:
