Summary of Job Duties:
The Biology Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in biology to students at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The incumbent will also serve as Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies. The role involves preparing and delivering engaging lessons in biology, assessing student performance, fostering a dynamic learning environment, and contributing to curriculum development. This position may also involve laboratory instruction, research opportunities, academic advising, and other duties as assigned by the department or institution. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Qualifications:
Required Education and/or
Experience:
A master's degree or Ph.D. in Biology, or a closely related field; Strong knowledge of biological principles, with a commitment to keeping up with advancements in the field. Preferred Education and/or
Experience:
Previous teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level; Experience with laboratory instruction.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and deliver lectures, lessons, and laboratory exercises on molecular, cell, and developmental biology, microbiology, genetics, or related topics; Develop and implement course syllabi, assignments, and assessments; Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment, encouraging student engagement and participation; Provide individualized attention to students who require additional academic support; Create and grade quizzes, exams, lab reports, and other assignments; Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work to encourage academic growth; Monitor and report on student progress, offer assistance as needed; Oversee laboratory sessions, ensuring safety and proper procedure; Demonstrate and guide students through hands-on experiments and activities; Ensure lab equipment and materials are prepared and maintained; Participate in curriculum review and development to ensure that course content aligns with current scientific knowledge and institutional goals; Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary or cross-departmental initiatives; Advise students on academic progress, course selection, and career...
