Tenure Track Department Summary The Department of Biological Sciences at Bridgewater State University is a dynamic community with over 400 undergraduate majors and a growing master's program. We aim to provide our students with a broad background in the biological sciences while also supporting subdisciplines of interest (e.g., we have concentrations in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Biomedical Science and Pre-medicine, and Secondary Education). Given the number of positions in biotechnology, research, education and health care in the area, the mission of the department is to train students and support their placement into the workforce and advanced degree programs. Students are the central focus and an integral part of the Department, working side-by-side with faculty who are enthusiastically committed to teaching and research. A strong sense of community is fostered through small class sizes and individualized research and career mentoring from faculty. Our department has a strong and well-supported undergraduate research program that funds student research projects and student travel to present their research at local, national, or international conferences. The candidate will join thirteen Full-Time Tenure-Track Faculty in the department and teach a diverse student population. In Fall 2025, 46% of our declared majors were students of color, 48% were first-generation, 38% were low-income, and 20% were LGBTQIA+. Within the College of Science and Mathematics, and in our department, we have an active Collective focused on Equity and Racial Justice, and this new faculty member is encouraged to participate in this work. Essential Duties The Department of Biological Sciences at Bridgewater State University seeks three full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professors of Biology with expertise in evolutionary developmental biology, genetics, or physiology (immunology experience preferred). Candidates should demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching, advising, and research that includes mentoring undergraduate students. Essential duties include participation in departmental meetings, committee work, departmental curriculum development, and advising students in course selection and major progress. The ideal candidate must demonstrate sensitivity to and an understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities. Teaching requirements will include in-person instruction to Biology majors and non-majors. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to teach upper-level biology elective courses in their area of expertise that complement existing strengths of the Department. Upper-level undergraduate courses may be cross-listed with our graduate program. The candidate will also be expected to mentor undergraduates in research and contribute (via teaching or research mentoring) to our Master of Science program. Required Qualifications

• The successful candidate must have an earned Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related field by September 1, 2027.
• College-level teaching experience of undergraduate students
• The ability to teach lecture and laboratory sections in General Biology, or Genetics l, or Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II.
• The candidate must also demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and undergraduate research mentoring that enhances an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion. Preferred Qualifications
• Post-doctoral research experience and experience mentoring undergraduate research.
• A well-developed research plan incorporating undergraduate students into a research program.
• Research with a model organism that complements the offerings of the department at a BSL-II level or lower.
• The candidate should possess excellent communication skills.
• Knowledge of, or openness to further developing culturally responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices to engage a diverse group of students.
• Familiarity with, or openness to adopting, innovative technology to foster engaged learning.

Special Conditions for Eligibility Please be aware that employment at Bridgewater State University is contingent upon completion of a successful background check. Bridgewater State University is an E-Verify employer. Salary is commensurate with experience in accordance with the Appendix O of the MSCA contract. A reasonable starting salary range to expect for a new faculty member appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor is $75,000 to $85,000.
