MANAGEMENT SCIENCE AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT I NSTRUCTOR/ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR OF PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
The Management Science and Information Systems (MSIS) Department in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a Professor of Practice position with a flexible start date - but no later than beginning in Fall 2027. Applicants for all ranks will be considered. The position is on the Stillwater campus. Departmental faculty, such as this position, are in both Stillwater and Tulsa and can teach classes in both locations (as well as on-line as appropriate). The position requires teaching seven sections per year (Fall and Spring semester). OSU's MSIS Department has a unique blend of faculty, students and staff, delivering innovative academic programs at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral level, producing impactful and high quality research, and providing outstanding service to the profession, the university, the college and to the community. The Department has a long tradition of research and instructional programs in the data sciences. Faculty have published some of the top-cited research papers in decision support systems and business intelligence/data analytics history and continue this publishing excellence today. The Department also partners with OSU's Center for Health Sciences and the Center of Health Systems Innovation in delivering graduate programs and certificates, and conducting applied research, in health informatics and health care analytics. The successful applicant should be a creative and effective teacher capable of contributing to the existing department's undergraduate and (to a lesser extent) graduate programs. The MSIS Department has an undergraduate MIS degree with options in Data Science and in Cybersecurity, an undergraduate degree in Data Analytics, as well as an M.S. in MIS degree that supports these same areas. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach hands-on, analytical and technical classes. This includes the Spears School of Business core classes in Data Science taken by all business majors. Required skills will include the ability to teach large classes, knowledge in spreadsheet and visualization software, applied AI and LLM tools, and experience in activities that demonstrate instructional excellence. Other preferential skills would include the ability to teach other 'traditional' MIS undergraduate classes, including but not limited to programming, web development, and cybersecurity. Applicants should hold (at least) a relevant M.S. degree and have at least 5 years of significant and current practice experience, be able to demonstrate teaching excellence (or the potential for teaching excellence) and a commitment to being able to offer a wide range of courses. All candidates for the position must start with and maintain qualifications for AACSB accreditation - this can be either SA or IP qualifications. Finally, the applicant should have an innovative mindset and be willing to support and participate in departmental initiatives as needed. The appointment is for four years and can be renewed. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and academic qualifications. Applicant screening will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
