Academic Wage:
Professor of Practice in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This is a part-time (.10 FTE), 12-month position. The PoP is expected to contribute to teaching and research in the Department of Chemistry and co-teach one graduate or combined graduate/undergraduate level course in the foundations of innovations with applications to climate and energy ventures. This position supports OSU's mission to foster innovation, collaboration, and societal impact while preparing students for leadership in the emerging climate and energy economy. The courses will serve both senior undergraduate and graduate students in Science, Engineering, Business and other colleges at OSU that are interested in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The PoP in the Department of Chemistry performs duties in professionally related instruction and service with expectations in scholarly activity. The primary mission of the OSU Department of Chemistry is to provide a program of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral education in Chemistry, and to conduct research and scholarly activities that have an overarching impact on the biological and physical sciences, uniquely positioning OSU faculty and students to provide solutions to the current challenging problems with energy, disease, and climate and advance our understanding and control over materials, molecules and their reactions. The department offers B.S. and B.A. degrees in Chemistry and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry. With over 100 Ph.D. students and approximately 200 undergraduate majors, chemistry is one of the largest programs on the OSU Campus, with over 4,000 undergraduate students taking a class in the chemistry department every academic year. The College provides a core instructional role at Oregon State University (OSU), supporting the ideals of learning, discovery, and engagement that are the foundation of a land-grant university. The College has seven departments across the mathematical, physical and biological sciences: Biochemistry and Biophysics, Chemistry, Integrative Biology, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, and Statistics. The College supports more than 3,700 undergraduate students and 500 graduate students (including dual majors) within ten undergraduate, eight M.S. and seven Ph.D. degree programs. Key Responsibilities Teaching/Instruction (75%) Co-Teach 1 course equivalents (CEs) at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Work with the Department of Chemistry in developing course materials, inviting any guest speakers, creating course information in CANVAS, and on the department website. Work with the Department of Chemistry in developing enrollment for the course from the Colleges of Engineering, Business and other relevant colleges at OSU that are interested in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Collaborate with OSU's Office of Advantage in course development and IP related issues. Collaborative Research (20%) Collaborate with the Department of Chemistry faculty in research. Service (5%) Other duties as assigned. What You Will Need PhD in Chemistry or related field. Demonstrate ability to conduct high quality, independent research in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Five years of experience in teaching or leading workshops or seminars or other transferrable experience in Innovation with applications to climate and energy. Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence including a commitment to educational equity. What We Would Like You to Have Industry experience and experience in developing start-ups.
