Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Cook/Coach to work with adults with developmental disabilities. The Cook/Coach will be responsible for teaching and assisting individuals in developing their cooking skills, promoting independence, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Able to work all stations Deli, Burrito, Panini, Prep and Dish
  • Preps and executes all menu items, including those for seasonal and specials menu items for dine‐in and to‐go
  • Keeps all areas of the restaurant clean and organized by following cleaning checklists, assisting with cleaning dishes, cleaning kitchen equipment, and detail cleaning as necessary
  • Assists kitchen supervisor to maintain proper food par levels and use prep sheet to prepare correct levels
  • Conducts line checks for quality control
  • Uses proper tools that are available to ensure adherence to recipes such as measuring cups, job aids, and various kitchen equipment such as knives, mandolins,
  • Follows all opening, mid, and closing procedures as directed by checklists and direction of kitchen supervisor
  • Follows and completes Mychal's Cafe cleaning and food safety checklists to ensure proper food handling
  • Teach cooking skills, including meal planning, preparation, cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and cleanliness.
  • Provide hands-on support and supervision to ensure participants can safely and effectively engage in cooking activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of participant progress, daily activities, and any incidents. Report on individual progress and challenges.
  • Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations and organizational policies.
Provide first aid if necessary.
Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of cooking in a restaurant
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Culinary training or certification is a plus.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred. Experience in a culinary or teaching role is highly desirable.
  • Strong cooking and kitchen management skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit individual learning styles and needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform typical kitchen tasks.
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed.
  • Show up on-time to scheduled shift.
