This is a highly autonomous role, ideal for self-motivated, dependable professionals who are compassionate, service-oriented, and open to continuous learning through hands-on experience and constructive feedback. Teaching experience is a highly desirable qualification , particularly for candidates who have experience teaching, instructing, or coaching individuals within the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ID/DD) community . Individuals who are skilled educators and adaptable learners will thrive in this role. Position Overview You will empower individuals to achieve greater independence and meaningful community participation by teaching essential life skills in a structured, motivating, and person-centered manner. Instructors typically support a caseload of approximately five (5) individuals , with services concentrated throughout Alameda County . This position is an excellent opportunity for those seeking experience or growth in nonprofit services, social work, social services, special education, occupational therapy, mental health, or case management . We are seeking individuals who are both gifted teachers and teachable professionals , committed to making a lasting impact. Key Responsibilities Provide individualized instruction in independent living skills, including cooking, budgeting, housekeeping, personal hygiene, and community navigation Teach and reinforce self-advocacy skills, including understanding personal rights and responsibilities Support individuals in identifying, setting, and achieving personal independent-living goals Conduct assessments and develop individualized learning plans tailored to each participant's needs, strengths, and learning style Document progress and maintain accurate, timely service records Collaborate with supervisors and interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive, coordinated support Assist individuals in accessing community resources such as housing, employment, healthcare, and transportation Provide crisis support and de-escalation assistance when necessary Ensure compliance with all organizational policies, procedures, and service standards

Qualifications Teaching, instructional, or coaching experience is highly desirable , especially with individuals in the ID/DD community Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a related human services role strongly preferred Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively Compassionate, patient, adaptable, and person-centered Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required High school diploma or equivalent required Degree in social work, human services, education, or a related field preferred
