POSITION SUMMARY
As a swim instructor, you will plan and deliver high-quality swim lessons to participants of all ages and skill levels. You will create a safe, encouraging environment that supports participant growth and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plans and implements developmentally appropriate swim lessons aligned with YMCA curriculum and participant skill levels. Evaluates participants' swimming abilities and tracks progress accurately; communicates progress to participants and parents/guardians as appropriate. Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area during lessons and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants, and other staff. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records of attendance and participant progress as required by the YMCA. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed; checks the pool for hazardous conditions upon arrival. Attends all staff meetings and trainings as required. Completes other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Certifications:
CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification. Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certification required, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire. YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent required; YMCA Swim Lessons certification preferred. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness. Must demonstrate swim instruction skills in accordance with YMCA standards. At least 16 years of age.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to pass lifeguard water test monthly. Must be able to remain alert throughout lessons and pool surveillance. Must be able to stand, kneel, or crouch at pool deck level for extended periods. Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals. Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision. Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue. Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations. Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques. Ability to lift equipment and a small to average size child.
Pay:
$17.40 - $19.40 per hour
