Job Description

Men and Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Assistant Coach The Athletics Department at Whittier College is seeking an Assistant Coach. The Assistant Coach will be responsible for the organization and management of an NCAA Division III Track and Field program in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the Athletics Department and the college. Excellent communication skills; exhibit high ethical standards, and the ability to work in a team orientated environment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for coaching and organizing all practices and games, recruiting quality student-athletes, budgeting, scheduling and travel planning, monitoring student-athlete academic progress and commitment to comply with all policies and regulations governing the NCAA. The position will also entail secondary athletic administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Irregular office hours including after-hours and weekends
Exempt Status:
Non-Exempt Full Time/Part Time status: Full Time, 11-month (off July)
Salary Range:
$27.00 per hour; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions of the job: Work closely with the Head Coach to establish a highly competitive NCAA and SCIAC Track and Field/ XC program Exhibit high ethical standards, and the ability to work in a team orientated environment. Coaching and organizing all practices and games. Act as Lead Recruiter in the recruiting of quality student-athletes. Ability to establish a budget and stay within the said budget. Provide scheduling and scheduling conflict resolutions Point in team travel planning and support for experience growth for the team and Student Athletes Monitoring student-athlete academic progress Assist in Competitive Meet preparation and execution Committed to comply with all policies and regulations governing the NCAA. Excellent Communication skill Ability to teach fundamentals and expertise in the area of Track and Field events Ability to make decisions and in place of the Head Coach if required Non-Essential Functions of the

Position Specifications and Requirements:
Bachelor's degree is required with a Master's degree preferred The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 years coaching experience Successful candidate will maintain a strong commitment to the academic achievement of student athletes in a diverse student population. Knowledge and commitment to SCIAC and NCAA Division III policies and strong interpersonal skills are necessary.
