Position Overview The Assistant Middle School Boys Basketball Coach supports the Head Coach in developing and maintaining a positive, competitive, and student-centered basketball program aligned with the mission and values of Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy. The Assistant Coach will help facilitate practices, support student-athlete development, assist with game preparation and supervision, and contribute to a culture focused on teamwork, accountability, sportsmanship, and personal growth. Key Competencies Strong teamwork and collaboration skills Effective communication and organizational abilities Knowledge of basketball fundamentals and player development Ability to motivate and mentor middle school student-athletes Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and sportsmanship Ability to adapt and remain composed under pressure Positive attitude and willingness to support all aspects of the basketball program Core Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Program Support and Player Development Assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the middle school boys basketball program Support and help lead organized, purposeful, and developmentally appropriate practices Teach basketball fundamentals, techniques, teamwork, and sportsmanship Provide encouragement, mentorship, and constructive feedback to student-athletes Help foster accountability, discipline, and character development among team members Support skill development opportunities and off-season programming as assigned Game and Competition Support Assist with coaching and supervision during games, tournaments, and team events Support game preparation, warm-ups, and in-game adjustments Help ensure student-athletes are prepared for competition physically and mentally Model professionalism and sportsmanship during athletic events Ensure compliance with league rules, policies, and school expectations Student-Athlete Support Encourage academic success and positive citizenship among athletes Help monitor student-athlete eligibility, attendance, and behavior Build positive relationships with student-athletes while maintaining appropriate expectations Promote teamwork, leadership, resilience, and personal growth Support student safety and well-being during practices, games, travel, and team activities Communication and Family Engagement Maintain professional communication with athletes, families, coaching staff, and administration Assist with communicating schedules, expectations, and program updates Address concerns collaboratively and professionally Represent the school and athletic program positively within the community Operations and Program Assistance Assist with inventory, care, and organization of equipment and uniforms Help maintain gym spaces and equipment in a safe and organized manner Assist with team supervision, transportation logistics, and event setup as assigned Attend required meetings, trainings, and athletic department events Support the Head Coach and Athletic Director with additional program needs as assigned Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations Criminal background check required for hire Valid Colorado driver's license preferred CPR and First Aid certification required Completion of all required coaching certifications and trainings Concussion training certification required Other Work Factors Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, demonstrate athletic movements, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and communicate. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a gymnasium and school athletic environment, including occasional travel and athletic events. Mental Functions While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, analyze, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, problem solve, and use interpersonal skills effectively. Required Qualifications High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred Previous basketball playing and/or coaching experience at the middle school, high school, club, or collegiate level preferred Ability to pass a background check (required) Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain upon hire Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, techniques, and game strategy Strong communication and relationship-building skills Commitment to sportsmanship, character development, and student-athlete success Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach, Athletic Department, students, and families Must meet league and school coaching requirements Why Join Us? Compensation and Benefits This position includes a seasonal coaching stipend based on experience and program assignment.
