Seasonal (Fall or Spring Sports Season and Off-Season Responsibilities as Assigned) About Us Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free public charter school authorized by District 49, proudly serving the Banning Lewis Ranch community and surrounding neighborhoods in northeastern Colorado Springs since 2006. Our mission is to create a safe, supportive environment where students thrive academically and develop the skills, character, and mindset to engage with the world. Position Overview The Head Middle School Soccer Coach is responsible for leading and developing the middle school soccer program in alignment with the mission and values of Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy. The coach will foster a positive, development-focused, and student-centered environment that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, accountability, and sportsmanship. This role includes overseeing all aspects of the middle school soccer program, including planning practices, coaching games, supporting student-athlete development, maintaining communication with families, and ensuring compliance with school and league expectations. Key Competencies Strong leadership and relationship-building skills Effective communication and organizational abilities Knowledge of soccer strategy, player development, and conditioning Ability to motivate and mentor middle school student-athletes Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and sportsmanship Ability to manage team dynamics and respond calmly under pressure Strong collaboration skills with school staff, families, and administration Core Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Program Leadership and Development Lead all aspects of the middle school soccer program, including program culture and expectations Plan and conduct organized, purposeful, and developmentally appropriate practices Teach soccer fundamentals, offensive and defensive systems, teamwork, and sportsmanship Develop student-athletes physically, mentally, and emotionally through positive coaching practices Promote accountability, discipline, and character development among student-athletes Support skill development opportunities and off-season programming as approved Game and Competition Management Coach and supervise all scheduled games, tournaments, and team events Develop game strategies and make effective in-game adjustments Ensure student-athletes are prepared for competition through practice planning and instruction Model professionalism and sportsmanship during all athletic events Ensure compliance with league rules, policies, and school expectations Student-Athlete Support Promote academic success and positive citizenship among team members Monitor student-athlete eligibility, attendance, behavior, and academic performance Build positive relationships with athletes while maintaining high expectations Encourage leadership, teamwork, resilience, and personal growth Support student safety and well-being during all practices, games, travel, and team activities Communication and Family Engagement Maintain clear, timely, and professional communication with athletes, families, administration, and staff Communicate practice schedules, game information, expectations, and program updates effectively Address concerns and conflicts professionally and collaboratively Represent the school and athletic program positively within the community Operations and Program Management Assist with inventory, care, and organization of equipment and uniforms Ensure field spaces and equipment are maintained appropriately and safely Coordinate transportation, game logistics, and team supervision as assigned Collaborate with the Athletic Director regarding scheduling, budgets, and program needs Attend required meetings, trainings, and athletic department events Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations Criminal background check required for hire Valid Colorado driver's license preferred CPR and First Aid certification required Completion of all required coaching certifications and trainings Concussion training certification required Other Work Factors Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, demonstrate athletic movements, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and communicate. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily on athletic fields and in school athletic environments, including occasional travel and athletic events. Mental Functions While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, analyze, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, problem solve, and use interpersonal skills effectively. Required Qualifications High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred Previous soccer coaching experience at the middle school, high school, club, or collegiate level preferred Ability to pass a background check (required) Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain upon hire Strong knowledge of soccer fundamentals, strategy, conditioning, and player development Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff Commitment to sportsmanship, character development, and student-athlete success Must meet league and school coaching requirements Why Join Us? Compensation and Benefits This position includes a seasonal coaching stipend based on experience and program assignment.
