Summary:
Fort Lupton Middle School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic CoEd Assistant Wrestling Coach for the upcoming school year. The ideal candidate has previous wrestling coaching and/or competitive experience, demonstrates a passion for teaching the sport of wrestling, and is committed to helping both boys and girls develop as student-athletes on and off the mat. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Middle School Head Wrestling Coach to support a positive, competitive, safe, and student-centered wrestling program. The coach will assist with practices, competitions, individual skill development, team expectations, and the overall development of student-athletes at all experience levels. This position will support the implementation of the program's philosophy, expectations, practice plans, wrestler development, and competition preparation. The Assistant Coach will also help create alignment between the middle school and high school wrestling programs to provide a consistent developmental pathway for student-athletes.
Responsibilities:
Program Leadership Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting practices, competitions, and team activities. Support the overall vision, expectations, and philosophy established for the Fort Lupton wrestling program. Teach and reinforce wrestling fundamentals, rules, terminology, scoring, positioning, and competition strategies. Provide positive instruction and constructive feedback that encourages growth, confidence, discipline, and skill development. Assist the Head Coach with individual and team goal setting throughout the season. Promote teamwork, accountability, integrity, perseverance, sportsmanship, commitment, and school pride. Foster an inclusive CoEd environment where both boys and girls have equitable opportunities to learn, compete, and develop. Support alignment between the middle school and high school wrestling programs to create a consistent developmental pathway for student-athletes. Wrestler Development Teach age-appropriate wrestling fundamentals, including stance, movement, takedowns, escapes, reversals, breakdowns, riding techniques, pinning combinations, and defensive techniques. Emphasize proper technique and skill progression before advancing athletes to more complex wrestling situations. Develop student-athletes' wrestling IQ, mat awareness, decision-making, conditioning, work ethic, discipline, confidence, and character. Provide instruction appropriate for athletes with varying levels of wrestling experience, from first-year wrestlers to experienced competitors. Prepare student-athletes for advancement within the Fort Lupton wrestling program. Provide regular instruction, mentorship, and constructive feedback to support individual improvement. Encourage academic achievement, responsibility, attendance, sportsmanship, and positive decision-making. Assist with approved offseason wrestling opportunities, camps, open mats, strength and conditioning, and other program activities. Encourage student-athlete retention and continued participation in the Fort Lupton wrestling program. Work collaboratively with coaching staff to provide appropriate practice partners, skill groupings, and competition opportunities based on experience, ability, size, and safety considerations. Create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all wrestlers. Communication & Relationship Maintain positive and professional communication with the Head Coach, student-athletes, families, teachers, school administrators, athletic department, and other coaching staff. Support appropriate and timely communication regarding practices, competitions, transportation, expectations, and program activities. Assist in monitoring wrestler attendance, eligibility, academic standing, and behavior in collaboration with the Head Coach and Athletic Director. Promote positive relationships between the wrestling program, school, families, youth wrestling programs, and community. Support all district policies regarding student supervision, transportation, communication, and student-athlete welfare. Maintain professional boundaries and model appropriate behavior when interacting with student-athletes. Safety & Supervision Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive practice and competition environment. Teach and reinforce proper wrestling techniques designed to reduce the risk of injury. Ensure athletes understand proper positioning and safe execution of wrestling moves. Recognize and immediately stop potentially dangerous or illegal wrestling situations during practices. Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, locker room activities, team events, and approved offseason activities. Ensure student-athletes are appropriately supervised before, during, and after practices and competitions. Assist with proper warm-up, conditioning, flexibility, hydration, recovery, and injury-prevention practices. Follow all applicable rules and district requirements regarding wrestler weight management, hydration, nutrition, and competition eligibility. Do not promote or permit unsafe weight-loss, dehydration, or rapid weight-cutting practices. Respond appropriately to injuries and emergencies while following district safety procedures and emergency action plans. Work cooperatively with athletic trainers, medical personnel, administrators, and families regarding athlete injuries and return-to-participation requirements. Promote proper sportsmanship and uphold high standards of conduct on and off the mat..
Qualifications:
Previous coaching and/or playing experience in basketball is preferred. Experience working with middle school-aged students is preferred. Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, offensive and defensive concepts, player development, and age-appropriate coaching techniques. Ability to teach fundamental skills to student-athletes with varying levels of experience and ability. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively as a member of the coaching staff and athletic department. Ability to serve as a positive role model for middle school student-athletes. CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain certification prior to the season. Must pass all required background checks. Must complete all Weld Re-8 School District and athletic department required training. Must review and sign the Weld Re-8 Coaches' Manual and comply with all district, league, and applicable governing-body requirements.
Additional Expectations:
Be available for after-school practices, competitions, tournaments, approved offseason opportunities, and occasional weekend activities as required. Attend required coaches' meetings, professional development opportunities, preseason orientations, parent meetings, and wrestling program events. Actively support student-athletes academically, socially, athletically, and personally. Assist with wrestling mat setup, cleaning, breakdown, and proper storage. Assist with uniform, equipment, headgear, and team inventory management. Assist with competition-day setup, scoring tables, weigh-in preparation, team supervision, and other operational responsibilities as assigned. Support appropriate cleanliness and sanitation procedures for wrestling mats, equipment, locker rooms, and practice areas. Support the Head Coach and District Athletic Director in implementing all school, district, league, and athletic department expectations. Represent Fort Lupton Middle School, Fort Lupton Athletics, and Weld Re-8 School District professionally at all times.
