Position Summary The Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes across various sports. This role focuses on enhancing athletic performance, reducing the risk of injury, and promoting overall fitness among high school student-athletes. This is a part-time, seasonal position running approximately mid-August through mid-June each academic year. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Develop sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for the athletic teams Implement and supervise strength and conditioning programs for the athletic teams, both in-season and off-season Educate athletes on the importance of strength training, conditioning, nutrition, and recovery strategies Assist with scheduling the use of the weight room Teach proper lifting techniques and exercise forms to ensure student-athlete safety and effectiveness Provide individualized coaching to student-athletes, focusing on skill development and injury prevention Monitor progress and adjust training programs as necessary Recommend equipment enhancements to the athletic facilities as it pertains to performance Maintain a safe training environment, ensuring all equipment is properly maintained and all safety protocols are followed Stay informed about and comply with relevant regulations and guidelines concerning student-athlete health and safety Work collaboratively with coaches, athletic trainers, and other staff to ensure a comprehensive approach to student-athlete training and recovery Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Other Attributes Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or equivalent certification through an accredited sport science organization (NASM, NCCA) is required. Previous experience coaching strength and conditioning at the high school or collegiate level is required. Strong knowledge of exercise physiology, sports nutrition, and injury prevention Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Proficient in using strength and conditioning equipment and technology Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required Unusual Working Conditions The work schedule will include evenings and weekends based on team schedules and events. Physical demands may include lifting weights, demonstrating exercises, and standing for extended periods. Pre-Employment Requirements All offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory completion of a fingerprint-supported background check and a DCF/CPS background screening.
Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $8,000 - $9,000. Non-benefit eligible employees are unable to participate in the University's employee health and welfare benefit programs; however, part-time, non-benefit eligible employees are eligible to participate in Sacred Heart University's 403(b) retirement plan, but they are not eligible to receive the employer matching contributions, subject to the terms and eligibility requirements of the plan. Temporary, per-diem, and seasonal staff are not eligible to participate in the 403(b) retirement plan. This job posting provides an overview of the role's general nature and expected tasks.
