  • Until filled Wayne-Westland Community Schools is located in the metropolitan Detroit area, between Ann Arbor and Detroit.
Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 10,000 students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Livonia, Garden City, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, and Romulus. The Wayne-Westland Community School district is comprised of ten elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). We also have an early childhood center, an ultra-modern facility for career/technical training, an alternative high school, and a thriving online program. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned
  • Understand and follow all of the rules established by the Michigan High School Athletic Association, Inc. (MHSAA) and the Wayne-Westland Community School District
  • Evaluate officials and submit report as required by the MHSAA
  • Inventory, distribute, collect, and maintain the school's athletic equipment during the season
  • Provide the school's principal and athletic director with an acceptable, written copy of his/her team rules prior to the beginning of the season
  • Distribute, prior to the first team practice session, a copy of the team rules to each athlete
  • Monitor grades of students/athletes in the golf program and check academic eligibility
  • Establish a good working relationship with teaching staff to communicate needs of students experiencing academic difficulties
  • Teach and coach techniques and skills needed to ensure a successful golf program
  • Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times
  • Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use
  • Follow all of the established school and league rules pertaining to golf
  • Accompany team to all away contests by riding with the team on the team bus
  • Directly supervise and control athletes at both home and away contests
  • Properly secure the school facility after each practice or contest
  • Make sure that no athlete is left unsupervised or unattended during or after any practice or contest
  • Not allow any individual without a properly executed school district coaching contract rider to coach or otherwise direct any members of the team
  • Follow all directives from the school administrators and/or athletic director Revised 2/5/25
  • Responsible for the safety and well being of athletes
  • Behave in an exemplary manner at all times
  • Arrange all team transportation through the athletic director
  • Establishes a sound program of injury prevention and follow-up
  • Communicates with athletic trainer concerning injuries and student playing status
  • Uphold the Bill of Rights for Young Athletes and conduct self in accordance with the MHSAA's Athletic Code for Coaches
  • Responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, community and fans
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous successful golf coaching experience and/or experience playing at college or university level preferred
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and at the same time must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent in the field
  • A positive role model and motivator
  • Exhibits qualities of leadership and organizational ability
  • Applicant must have a time schedule compatible with that of the high school
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Organizational skills necessary to maintain a budget, inventory and paperwork
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate and work with students, staff, parents, and community
  • Certified in first aid procedures
  • Possess a current/valid CPR certificate
  • Possess a Concussion Training Certificate
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the golf course. The employee will be required to frequently use hands and body to demonstrate proper techniques required for the sport. Employee will constantly work in outdoor weather conditions. The employee will frequently communicate with students, staff, and parents and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with students, staff and occasionally with the public. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students and staff.
EVALUATION
Job performance is evaluated in accordance with district guidelines.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The amount of the contract is based on the W-WEA collective bargaining agreement. Weekly hours worked may include planning meetings and/or practice, travel, events and/or games, and student study table. There is no expectation for average weekly hours to exceed 29 hours; therefore, position is ineligible for benefits.
