Tampa YMCA Gymnastics Coaches manage team practices for their assigned competitive levels for children from 4 to 17 years of age. The Gymnastics Coach I can train up to level 5 and Xcel Gold. The Gymnastics Coach II is capable of training up to Level 10 and Xcel Sapphire. Coaches will ensure team practices are run safely, consistently, efficiently, and effectively. Coaches will work with gymnasts, hands-on, and ensure that team gymnasts advance at appropriate levels and are trained and prepared for competitions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Works closely with the Gymnastics Director, and other coaches, to attain the best results for the team and individuals. Develops weekly lesson plans to assist in program development and individual progression of skills. Instructs participants in USAG compulsory routines on Floor Exercise, Balance Beam, Uneven Bars, Vault. Observes participants and communicates ways to improve techniques learned. Communicates effectively with youth of varying ages. Travels and attends weekend competitions with the team gymnasts. Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations and the use of gymnastics equipment. Routinely inspects equipment to ensure it is in good working condition before and after use. Reports immediately any damages, equipment failures or potential safety concerns to director supervisor. Returns equipment to proper place after use. Completes all necessary paperwork and record keeping (i.e. skill sheets, attendance, and progress reports.) Always ensures safety protocols, reporting accidents or incidents immediately. Establishes and maintains a professional image and rapport with parents, members and students. Follows YMCA policies and procedures regarding the safety, health and welfare of members, program participants, guests and staff; responds to emergency situations in accordance to facility policies and certification requirements. Attends and actively participates in all trainings, staff meetings/in-services as assigned. Perform all other duties as assigned. Safety and Risk Management Adheres to all Federal, State, and local safety regulations, as well as all YMCA policies and procedures related to the safety, health, and welfare of members, participants, guests, and staff. Adheres to all training requirements and ensures implementation in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures. Ensures all Tampa YMCA standards and leading practices are implemented and followed. Applies Tampa YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to leading practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and all other areas that may impact the safety, health and welfare of members, program participants, guest and staff. Ensures all gymnastics staff members are fully trained and prepared for emergency situations. This includes implementing and following training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures. Ensures proper records, including staff member certifications, staff member meetings and trainings, and daily logs used for policy and procedure review. Ensures implementation of and follows all training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures. Schedules gymnastics staff in accordance to program needs and ensures all safety and program ratios are followed. Monitors daily gymnastics center operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health & safety regulation Adheres to policies and procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising participants and boundaries with participants. Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of equipment. Ensures staff at all levels within the program are safely spotting and lifting gymnasts. Supervises gymnasts before, during and after classes. Maintains an emphasis on safety in all areas of responsibility as they relate to members and staff. Promptly reports any suspicious or inappropriate behavior, as well as policy violations, following established association procedures.
Education/ Experience Required:
1 Year experience working or participating in gymnastics. Knowledge of all four USAG women's events including Floor Exercise, Balance Beam, Uneven Bars, and Vault. This position will require traveling to and from gymnastics competitions. Must have valid Florida Drivers' License and a good driving record. This position requires availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Certifications/Trainings Required:
Must obtain within 30 days, registered with the state of Florida, USAG Safety Certification and USAG Professional Member Must obtain within 30 days of employment and then maintain current certifications in CPR and First Aid.

Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including, but not limited to, leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting. Ability to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment. Hear noises and distress signals in the program environment, including in the classroom and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Ability to lift and move a minimum of 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme humidity/dampness, heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. This position requires reliable transportation and willing to travel, if needed. This position may require availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Must be able to perform all duties and functions of those that are supervised.
