Under the direction of the Program Director, the Head Gymnastics Coach will be responsible for providing leadership, instruction, and motivation for participants in the Gymnastics classes both recreational and competitive. The head Gymnastic coach will be responsible for the recruitment and development of gymnasts participating with the Tampa YMCA gymnastics. The Head Gymnastics Coach is responsible for training gymnastic skills to all program participants of various ages, levels and experience. The coach will also create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. The position requires schedule flexibility and will include nights and weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBLITIES

Program Quality and Growth Responsible for the planning, preparation and implementation of appropriate age and level-based lesson plans. Supports instructors/coaches to ensure gymnastic curriculum is applied and up to date. Supports the instructors' schedules for recreational classes and ensures rosters are printed and accurate. In partnership with the Program Director, supports the strategic plan initiatives, best practices and the elevation of the recreational gymnastics and competitive team as "signature programs" for the Tampa YMCA. Provides guidance and leadership for recreational instructor team and competitive Team coaches. Instructs and educates participants on general gymnastics information and the use of correct forms. Inspects, cleans, and sets up/puts away all equipment prior/post each class. Implements all safety precautions and emergency procedures when necessary. Enforces all YMCA and Gymnastics facility policies, rules and regulations. Responsible for supervision and safety in spotting all participants. Responsible for USAG registration and team management for Athlete and Coach participation in competitions. Responsible for effective communication with the parents of the gymnasts. Assures that lessons include proper warm-up, training and cool-down segments. Greets and interacts with members as needed before and after class, providing guidance, encouragement and motivation to every participant. Completes all required records and reports including attendance sheets, progression cards, evaluations and new gymnast orientation. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries in timely manner. Assists in training and developing new personnel as needed. Attends all scheduled staff meetings and trainings. Performs all other related duties as assigned by supervisor. Supports the planning and delivery of quality gymnastics summer, holiday and school break camps. Team Leadership In the absence of the Director, serves as Tampa YMCA representative at gymnastics meets and competitions and supervises logistics of staff members and gymnasts at gymnastics meets and competitions. Assists the Director with the creation and logistics of coach and instructor staff schedules. Assists the center operations by participating in the leader on duty schedule. Safety and Risk Management Adhere to all Federal, State, and local safety regulations, as well as all YMCA policies and procedures related to the safety, health, and welfare of members, participants, guests, and staff. Adhere to all training requirements and ensures implementation in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures. Ensure all Tampa YMCA standards and leading practices are implemented and followed. Apply Tampa YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to leading practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and all other areas that may impact the safety, health and welfare of members, program participants, guest and staff. Ensure all gymnastics staff members are fully trained and prepared for emergency situations. This includes implementing and following training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures. Ensure proper records, including staff member certifications, staff member meetings and trainings, and daily logs used for policy and procedure review. Ensure implementation of and follows all training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures. Schedule gymnastics staff in accordance to program needs and ensures all safety and program ratios are followed. Monitor daily gymnastics center operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health & safety regulation Adhere to policies and procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising participants and boundaries with participants. Conduct and ensures proper maintenance of equipment. Ensure staff at all levels within the program are safely spotting and lifting gymnasts. Supervise gymnasts before, during and after classes. Maintain an emphasis on safety in all areas of responsibility as they relate to members and staff. Promptly report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior, as well as policy violations, following established association procedures.

Education/ Experience Required:

1 Year experience working or participating in gymnastics. Knowledge of all four USAG women's events including Floor Exercise, Balance Beam, Uneven Bars, and Vault. This position will require traveling to and from gymnastics competitions. Must have valid Florida Drivers' License and a good driving record. This position requires availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Certifications/Trainings Required:

Must obtain within 30 days, registered with the state of Florida, USAG Safety Certification and USAG Professional Member Must obtain within 30 days of employment and then maintain current certifications in CPR and First Aid.

Ability to instruct and observe participants during program activities. The employee frequently is required to see, observe, and hear all participants, and make sound judgments and decisions. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including, but not limited to, leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting. Ability to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment. Hear noises and distress signals in the program environment, including in the classroom and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Ability to lift and move a minimum of 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme humidity/dampness, heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. This position requires reliable transportation and willing to travel, if needed. This position may require availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Must be able to perform all duties and functions of those that are supervised.
