POSITION SUMMARY

Has oversight in the effective delivery of sports/activity coaching to K-12 secondary school age children. Provides sports activity supervision, training and coaching to student athletes. Develops individuals according to their abilities and encourages them to sustain activity levels. Delivers core movement and sport specific skills training. Head Coach position reports to the School Site Athletic Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructs and coaches K-12 students on the fundamentals of sports. Works with the coaching staff with setting rules, policies and regulations for the team. Has oversight in proper registration of athletes. Has oversight in making systematic issuance of equipment. Has oversight with coordinating and monitoring try-outs.

Has oversight in coordinating and supervising practice schedule. Has oversight in the supervisory control over athletes and teams assigned.

Guides and encourages secondary school age student athletes to make appropriate decisions about further participation in sport(s) at a level appropriate to their ability.

Works closely with other staff to coordinate completion and opportunities. Initiates where appropriate.

Works with other partners to help monitor the impact of delivery and healthy lifestyles.

All other duties as assigned and required in order to perform the above services.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • To qualify as an athletic coach, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
  • 1. Certified employee serving in a teaching or administrative position.
  • OR
  • 2. A certified paraprofessional, and show evidence of completion of the required lay coach courses (GHSA Principles for Coaching and NCSS PREPARE/First Aid), complete the GHSA Head Coaching Class, and follow all policies/procedures outlined for head coaches.
  • Experience in coaching or playing the sport preferred. Experience with inventory of equipment and scheduling preferred.
  • Ability to manage projects and duties with minimal supervision. Ability to effectively manage time and priorities. Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Analytical; emphasize safety precautions; be aware of best training procedures and injury preventative actions. Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with intra-organizational teams.

Responsible for multiple functions of supervision (athletes, equipments and staff as needed) with a high-level accountability for effective operation and results.

Requires frequent travel for off-site competition/training locations.

Variable work environment - Office Setting, School grounds, Stadiums. Work requires physical effort 70% of the time or more outdoors. Moderate lifting, based on sport
