JOB TITLE
•Assistant Middle School Boys Track Coach

•Assistant Director of Athletics & Activities, Athletics & Activities Coordinator, Head Coach
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
•To instruct participants in the fundamental skill, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student-athlete shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation and internalization of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence, and sportsmanship. Implements "quality" principles and tools to improve effectiveness of program. Please review the UCSD Actions of Excellence to gain an understanding of the expectations for UCSD employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
• (Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Education, Certification/Licensure, Experience, Equipment) Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Knowledge of Sports and Rules. Demonstrate proper care of injuries and injury prevention. Demonstrate and convey knowledge of sport. Demonstrate knowledge of and abide with the rules and regulations governing the sport. Demonstrate consistency with the philosophy and ethics. Certification/Licensure Appropriate BOEE licensure.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Coaching Performance•Interpersonal Relations Promote sportsmanship at events and practices. Prepare and implement practice plans and set yearly goals for each team as well as the program as a whole. Display good team preparation in areas of team mechanics, emotional readiness and skill development. Show concern for the safety and well being of athletes. Personal Conduct Command respect and set the example. Respect others. Remain ethical in dealing with others. Cooperation with other Coaches Share knowledge and cooperate with other coaches. Display respect for other sports and programs. Consider your program one of many, rather than the only program. Relationship with Athletes Remain positive, encouraging and supportive in criticism of players. Establish and maintain consistent discipline in accordance with administrative policy. Demonstrate concern for the athletes' academic program and conduct. Show respect for athletes as individuals. Inform student-athletes of the potential hazards and the possibility of serious injury with the improper or proper use of equipment and in participation of the sport itself. Appropriately acknowledge student achievement. Management Responsibilities Cooperate in developing eligibility lists, equipment needs and program information. Require all athletes to complete the necessary pre-participation requirements. Be punctual and responsible with inventory and other duties. Display accuracy and care in record keeping. Follow Athletic Department policy in all areas to include: record keeping, reporting inventory, transportation, purchasing, fundraising, and program management. Manage the entire program, not just the varsity level. Professional Responsibilities/Public Relations Provide supervision and administration of team members in regard to contests and events, practices, buses and locker rooms. Cooperate with the various staffs and administrations. Participate in in-service and professional athletic meetings. Accept recommendations and suggestions from supervisors. Implements an effective public relations program in regard to the news media, colleges and universities, parents and students.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Repetitious bending, lifting, and hand movement. Ability to work while standing, moving and/or walking. Drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free while working. Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids. Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Per Board Policies and the UEA Master Contract. Contract as determined by sport and season dates. Performance evaluated per Board Policy.
