Dance Team Coach Job Summary:
The Dance Team Coach is responsible for leading and developing a dance program that builds technical skills, creativity, teamwork, and school spirit among students in grades 6-8. The coach will choreograph routines, prepare the team for performances, and foster a positive, disciplined, and inclusive environment aligned with the school's mission and values.
Qualifications/ Minimum Requirements:
Dance experience required; coaching or choreography experience preferred. Experience working with middle school or junior high students. Knowledge of dance styles (e.g., pom, hip hop, jazz, or lyrical) and performance techniques. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to create an inclusive and encouraging team environment. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Reports to : Athletic Director and works in coordination with the Head Coach.
Responsibilities:
Plan and lead regular practices focused on dance technique, conditioning, and performance skills. Choreograph and teach routines for games, pep rallies, competitions (if applicable), and school events. Supervise students during practices, performances, and events, ensuring a safe and structured environment. Teach proper technique, timing, and performance quality while emphasizing injury prevention. Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, confidence, and personal growth among team members. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff. Organize and manage team logistics, including schedules, music costumes, and performance preparation. Monitor academic progress and reinforce academic expectations for participants. Ensure proper care, use, and inventory of costumes, props, and equipment. Follow all school, district, and applicable activity/athletic guidelines. Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities as required. Assist with tryouts, team selection, and program promotion. Physical Requirements Ability to demonstrate dance movements and routines. Ability to stand, move, and actively participate for extended periods. Ability to lift and manage props or equipment as needed.

Practices:
