Job Description
This person must have outstanding leadership qualities and he/she needs to have an excellent knowledge of the game of baseball. High School/College baseball coaching experience is preferred as well as a background in education/working with students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
a. Creates and models an environment with student athletes that focuses on sportsmanship, competition, positive behavior, and academics.
b. Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
c. Works with the athletic director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
d. Coaches and instructs student athletes regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
e. Assess student's skills and determines game strategy for the team.
f. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
g. Monitors academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
h. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
i. Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
j. Follows state and national regulations governing the athletic program.
k. Ensures all candidates for the team have had a physical and have returned the appropriate paperwork to the office prior to participating in the first practice.
l. Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of uniforms, facilities, and team equipment.
m. Works with athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
n. Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquet, and award nights.
o. Models nondiscriminatory practices at all activities.
p. Accompanies and supervises the team to and from all contests.
q. Works with the athletic director/principal in establishing a coaching staff & ensures coaching staff represent the school in a positive manner through their interactions with students and communities.
r. Attends school's coaches meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance as requested by athletic director.
s. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the principal and/or athletic director
t. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents and students.
