Head Coach role:
  • Welcome
  • greet swimmers by name, make introductions. Holding initial team meeting before season begins.
  • Connect
  • Ask questions, share a story, introduce them to other coach staff.

  • Affirm and encourage young swimmers to learn fundamentals, proper techniques, improve their skills, gain confidence and cultivate a love of swim

  • Share opportunities to be involved during practices, at meets and during special social activities.
Pocahontas Swim Club is seeking a seasonal (summer) swim team head coach to cultivate our long-standing winning and popular summer swim program while meeting the needs of local swimmers and families.
Essential Functions :
The applicant must have the competencies, skills, and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out our clubs mission, goals, and visions for serving our team and their families. The head Swim Coach will be responsible for the following: 1. Directing and supervising our summer swim program to meet the Pocahontas Board of Directors and USA Swimming objectives. 2. Reviewing and evaluating coaching staff performance. Recruits, directs and gives helpful feedback as needed. 3. Keeping accurate records of swimmers times, splits, DQ's etc. 4. Organizing the swim team, schedules, conducts swim meets, swim team practices and assigns workouts appropriately based on age groups. 5. Responding to parent and board inquiries and concerns in a timely manner. 6. Compiling statistics. Monitors and evaluates effectiveness and participation in our program. 7. Accurately utilizing online swim team software (TeamUnify) to regularly communicate and post regular meet, invitational and finals information practice/changes. Makes all meet entries based on swimmer times. 8. Encouraging and instructing all swimmers of correct stroke and turn technique, based on their ability. We have many different levels aged 6-18
  • some year round swimmers, school and summer and some summer only.
Meeting them where they are with constructive and kind feedback.
Qualifications :
  • The candidate must bring to the position a minimum of 3 years head coach experience.
  • The following certifications are preferred: USA Swimming, CPR, AED, Red Cross lifeguard certification
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with swimmers, parents and our Board of Directors.
  • Candidate must be motivated, have a positive attitude and be collaborative.
  • Ability to maintain a safe swimming environment at all times.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
