JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title:
Head Athletic Coach
Responsible To:
Principal
Basic Function:
Enable each student an opportunity to learn the skills needed to effectively and safely participate in extra-curricular activities.
Performance Responsibilities:
Promote sports in the schools and community Plan the assigned athletic program Organize and supervise practices Teach individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy and rules and regulations of the game. Teach the elements of good sportsmanship and self-control that displays professionalism. Respect the integrity and judgment of sports officials. Check eligibility of participants, including physicals, insurance coverage and parent consent. Provide students a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude and general guidance. Conduct learning experiences, with small groups of student athletes. Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety and welfare of student athletes. Attend all related in-service training, professional meetings, and staff development workshops. Develop good rapport and lines of communication with individuals and groups to include, but not limited to, players, parents, school personnel, officials, media representatives, etc. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. Perform other related duties as assigned by principal or superintendent.
Knowledge of:
Fundamentals of various sports Health and safety regulations Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy Ability to: Assist coaches on one or more sports Understand and follow oral and written directions. Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of and experience with the sport to be coached Experience with coaching or work with students in extra-curricular/co-curricular teams, preferred.
Terms of Employment:
Salary and work year/season to be determined by the board of education.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated based on board policy and best practices.
