Job Description:
This is a part-time, seasonal position reporting to the Head Swimming and Diving Coach. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting in all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division III varsity diving program. The primary focus is the instruction, safety, and recruitment of student-athletes within the diving discipline. This role requires a commitment to the mission of Mount Holyoke College, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that supports the holistic development of scholar-athletes. The position includes evening and weekend hours and follows the academic calendar.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead all diving practices, meets, and dryland activities. Provide technical analysis of performance, identifying areas for improvement and teaching new dives and techniques using specialized equipment (e.g., trampoline and spotting rig). Ensure all activities adhere to industry safety standards. Maintain a thorough knowledge of and compliance with NCAA Division III and Mount Holyoke College regulations regarding recruiting, student-athlete eligibility, and PSA (Prospective Student-Athlete) evaluations. Manage the full lifecycle of diving recruitment. Identify, evaluate, and communicate with PSAs to build a competitive roster of student-athletes. Oversee the academic progress and personal well-being of swimming and diving student-athletes, serving as a mentor and resource. Assist the Head Coach with administrative tasks, including travel logistics, meal arrangements, fundraising initiatives, and home meet management. Maintain and oversee the upkeep of diving-specific equipment (boards, harnesses, trampolines) to ensure a safe and high-functioning training environment. Maintain a working knowledge of e-Dive, Dive Meet, and other relevant recruiting or department software. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the sport, and a high degree of self-motivation to recruit and coach in a challenging academic environment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student body and a commitment to fostering an inclusive team culture. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and prospective families. Ability to safely use a trampoline and spotting rig for training and instructive purposes. Current Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification. Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. Previous coaching experience Competitive diving experience. Lifeguard Training Certification.
