ASSISTANT COACH
to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year The Westborough Public Schools seek professionals who are excited to join a high-performing district where academic excellence, equity and wellness are our core values. Stipended positions:
$6,320 Club Coach
$3,241 Assistant Club Coach Coach and Assistant Coach duties include but are not limited to: Lead/mentor/coach the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team throughout the build/competition season (Jan-May) and off-season (Sept-Dec), guiding students in the design, fabrication, and testing of a competition robot
Recruit and manage student participation, ensuring a safe environment for team members across all grade levels
Coordinate team logistics, including practice schedules, competition travel, registration deadlines, and compliance with FIRST rules and deadlines
Supervise and support adult mentors and volunteers
Oversee team budget and fundraising efforts, including grant applications, sponsor relationships, and expense tracking in partnership with school administration or supporting foundations
Research and procure all materials necessary for the robot, field, and team functions
Serve as the primary liaison between the school, FIRST, parents/guardians, and school district regarding team activities and communications
Ensure adherence to safety protocols in the shop/build space, including proper use of tools, machinery, and materials
Represent the team at competitions, community events, and outreach activities, promoting the program to prospective students, sponsors, and the broader community
Maintain team records, including student rosters, attendance, and season documentation for continuity year over year
Any other duties as assigned by the Westborough High School principal This position requires a varying time commitment throughout the school year, including evenings and weekends. The individual time commitment will vary based on the number and availability of adult volunteers supporting the team.
September-December:
Approximately one evening per week, plus one off-season event.
January-March:
Primary competition season with a significantly greater commitment, including multiple weekday evenings and weekends. The team may meet up to approximately 23 hours per week during this period, with coverage shared among available adult volunteers.
April-June:
Reduced schedule, with additional time required if the team advances to championships and for one off-season event.
Applicants should be prepared for an increased evening and weekend commitment during the January-March competition season.
