Basic Statement of Responsibilities Head coaching staff members are responsible for coaching intercollegiate and/or club team sports, recruiting student-athletes for multiple sports, initiate and follow-up recruiting contacts, supervise facility, cover for other staff when needed, assist in supervising open gym. Essential Functions Coach student-athletes in designated sport(s). Follow NJCAA Code of Conduct and Sportsmanship By-Laws. Follow Maryland Junior College Athletic By-Laws and Codes. Follow Region 20 By-Laws and Codes. Provide the leadership and coaching expertise that is required to prepare a competitive team to represent the College in an exemplary manner at all practice sessions and scheduled intercollegiate athletic contests. Cultivate an environment for your team that promotes good sportsmanship, open communication, team discipline, and respect for all that enter the athletic arena of participation. Promote an atmosphere that discourages verbal, physical, or sexual harassment on any Allegany College of Maryland student, college employee, officials, spectator, or opposing student athlete. Make initial and follow up calls to recruits. Travels with their respective team in the college provided transportation to all scheduled 'away' games. Directly supervise team members during practice sessions or scheduled intercollegiate athletic contests, starting at the beginning date for practice sessions and continuing to the last scheduled date of competition. Meet tournament deadlines and obligations. Follow the rules and regulations of student-athlete eligibility. Submit appropriate statistical reports and information on time to the NJCAA, Region 20, Maryland JUCO Conference and the Athletic department. Scores must be reported to the Athletic department at the conclusion of the contest. Reports all game scores to the local newspaper immediately following each game. Maintain contact with the transportation department regarding travel arrangements and keep them notified of travel changes. While traveling and participating in intercollegiate athletics the coach is responsible for overseeing that the student-athletes' conduct represents Allegany College of Maryland and NJCAA appropriately. Contact media regarding preseason and season follow up information. Assists the Athletic Director with finalizing the respective sport schedule. Hold tryouts for team formation. Distributes and collects all respective team equipment and uniforms. Conducts a sufficient number of practice sessions each week, with each session lasting approximately one and one-half hours. Ensures safety procedures are followed while coaching. Distributes all monies used by the team at 'away' games; and keeps record receipts of monies spent. Serves as liaison between the Athletic Director and opposing teams. Supervises the assistant coach. Ensures appropriate conduct is observed by all team members and personnel at both 'home' and 'away' games and at all practice sessions. Assists with organization and administration of respective team tournaments when hosted by ACM. Recruits team members from the college's general student population. Recruits team members from area high schools, in accordance with the college's recruitment policy. Off-campus travel to visit prospective student-athletes. Develop relationships with high school coaching staffs. Create database of contacts in multiple states. Evaluate academic credentials of incoming student-athletes. Encourage and promote student athletes to make academic progress and attend all classes. Develop both positive and punitive actions to promote academic progress and class attendance. Apply all rules and regulations governing eligibility and alcohol/drug use as required by the College; the Department of Athletics, and all conference and associations in which membership is held. Participate in and organize a fundraising program plan design to provide support for equipment, travel and student athlete recruitment enhancements for prospective student athletes on your team. Work cooperatively with the college administration and athletic department. Keep the athletic administration abreast of any relevant issues associated with your team and/or sport. Attend department and state/region coaches' association meetings. Performs other head coaching duties as assigned by the Athletic Director. Secondary 1.Instruct student-athletes within their program on proper training and lifting procedures. 2.Instruct users of Fitness Center on proper training procedures. 3. Attend college-wide meetings and trainings. 4. Other duties as needed/assigned.
Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills Required:
Experience with basketball at the high school, AAU, club, prep school, or collegiate level Knowledge of basketball rules and regulations CPR certification required prior to supervising athletes. Knowledge of exercise equipment (including weights) and their use Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively for recruiting and competitions

Practical experience coaching Women's Basketball Knowledge of NJCAA and Maryland JUCO rules Demonstrated recruiting experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, and management skills. Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and have the ability to delegate effectively. Must adhere to national and state standards/rules. Strong planning ability with excellent organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to manage a group of participants effectively. Must be knowledgeable in CPR with current certification, weight training techniques, proper use of exercise equipment and fitness/wellness best practices, and departmental sports. Knowledge of or ability to learn software designed to keep updated statistics and to record and list prospects. Valid driver's license. Ability to interact professionally and confidentially with the college community and the public. Requires the ability to work effectively with a diverse population, while exercising discretion and good judgment. Possess excellent decision-making and judgment skills. Math skills are needed in this position for figuring statistics.
