Saint Joseph's College of Maine is hiring for the position of Assistant Swimming Coach !
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Swimming Coach supports the Saint Joseph's College Monks Swimming program by assisting in all aspects of training, athlete development, recruitment, and program growth This position plays a critical role in building a competitive GNAC and NCAA Division III program grounded in discipline, accountability, academic excellence, and championship performance This is a part-time, stipend paid position Applicants are to submit a statement of coaching philosophy to accompany their applicationPOSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with Leadership and Team Management by: Assist the Head Coach in designing and implementing daily training plans, seasonal periodization, and performance progression aligned with GNAC and NCAA Division III standards Coach student-athletes in stroke technique, race strategy, pacing, starts, turns, relay exchanges, and strength integration Support data-driven training by tracking performance metrics, stroke rates, splits, race analysis, and physiological monitoring Provide on-deck leadership during practices, dual meets, invitationals, and conference championships Mentor student-athletes in academic accountability, time management, leadership, and team culture Assist with recruiting prospective student-athletes through communication, campus visits, high school outreach, and meet attendance Contribute to building a team culture centered on work ethic, unity, competitive excellence, and personal growth Meet regularly with athletes to review performance goals, development plans, and race execution strategies Assists with the management of the Sport Program Development and Performance by: Collaborate with the Head Coach to implement a structured annual training plan including foundational build, midseason competition, training camp, taper, and championship preparation Analyze meet results, splits, stroke efficiency, and race execution to inform training adjustments Assist with strength and conditioning coordination in collaboration with athletic performance staff Help integrate mental training, visualization, and race rehearsal into practice design Support relay planning and championship meet strategy to maximize team scoring potential Contribute to long-term program growth initiatives, including roster development and competitive positioning within the GNAC and NCAA Division III landscape Uphold standards of professionalism, integrity, and academic priority within the program Ensures Athletic Department Collaboration and Compliance by: Ensure compliance with all GNAC and NCAA Division III regulations, institutional policies, and conference rules Collaborate with Athletic Training staff to support athlete safety, injury prevention, and return-to-play protocols Represent the program at recruiting events, high school meets, and regional swim functions Participate in athletic department meetings and campus events as required Promote Saint Joseph's College's mission and values in all interactionsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree required Collegiate swimming and/or coaching experience preferred Experience in stroke analysis, race strategy development, and performance tracking preferred CPR/AED certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire) Demonstrated understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy and student-athlete development model preferred Must hold a valid driver's license, have an acceptable motor vehicle record, and successfully complete SJC driver training programSupervision and Scheduling Demands:
