Middle School Girls Basketball, Head Coach Job Summary:
The Middle School Girls Basketball Coach develops and maintains an efficient and competitive basketball program at the assigned school by conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques. Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system with campuses throughout the City of Flint, Michigan, has a long and rich tradition of community education. Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services and extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families. Essential Functions (May include, but not limited to): Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, school pride, and commitment to performing at a high level among athletes and spectators. Plan and direct all training, conditioning, and performance activities for the basketball program, while supervising and supporting assistant coaches. Implement appropriate strength and conditioning programs for volleyball, including off-season training in compliance with Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) regulations. Support academic success by emphasizing high academic standards and assisting student-athletes with the college recruiting process when appropriate. Recommend the hiring or retention of assistant coaches and regularly supervise and evaluate their performance. Maintain strong knowledge of rules and regulations set by the Michigan High Schools Athletic Association (MHSAA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Promote and represent the basketball program positively within the school and the community. Collaborate with other athletic programs and coaches within Flint Community Schools to support a balanced athletic program. Work with the Athletic Director to develop team schedules and coordinate program operations. Recommend equipment and supply needs, maintain inventory, and ensure proper care of all program equipment. Ensure all student athletes have valid medical examinations prior to participation and verify eligibility in accordance with MHSAA rules. Maintain positive and constructive communication with parents and families. Build and maintain a strong connection with the middle school basketball program through campus, clinics, mentoring, and program collaboration. Support and uphold the mission and goals of Flint Community Schools. Perform all other duties related to the position as assigned by the Athletic Director. Education:
Bachelor's Degree preferred. MHSAA Coaching Certification and CPR and First Aid Certified.Experience:
Previous middle or high school coaching is required. Previous middle school head coaching experience preferred. Previous college playing experience preferred.Skills:
Leadership and program management; volleyball coaching expertise including player development, game strategy, and strength and conditioning. Staff supervision and mentoring along with athlete mentorship and academic support. Strong communication and relationship building skills. Organizational and administrative skills. Knowledge of rules and compliance standards from the Michigan High School Athletic Associate and recruiting regulations form the National Collegiate Athletic Association.Other requirements:
