Job Description

Job Summary:
The Assistant Cross-Country Coach supports the Head Coach in leading and developing a competitive high school cross country program. This position focuses on building endurance, technique, and sportsmanship while fostering a positive and inclusive team culture. The role also helps prepare student-athletes for competition in accordance with school policies and the rules of the Michigan High School Athletic Association.
Essential Job Functions:
Attend all scheduled practices, competitions, and coaching meetings Assist Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, including conditioning, distance training, and injury prevention Provide instruction on proper running techniques, pacing strategies, and race preparation Assist with tasks such as attendance, communication with parents/guardians, coordination with school staff, event setup, and coordination of transportation and meet-day logistics Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, and team events Help create a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes effort, respect, and growth Serve as a role model / mentor to student-athletes, encouraging academic achievement & personal growth Comply with all school district, league, and MHSAA polices, rules and regulations Support the Head Coach in evaluating athlete performance and development Ensure compliance with school policies and Michigan High School Athletic Association rules and regulations Assist with maintaining equipment and organizing team records Respond appropriately to injuries and ensure athlete safety at all times Model professionalism and integrity through consistent attendance and positive leadership at all times Other duties as assigned
