Job Description
Position Summary The Varsity Boys Golf Coach is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and supervising all aspects of the high school boys golf program. This role includes developing student-athletes' golf skills, promoting sportsmanship and teamwork, fostering academic achievement, and ensuring compliance with district policies, athletic department expectations, league regulations, and Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) requirements. The Coach is responsible for creating a positive, safe, and competitive environment that supports the growth and development of student-athletes both on and off the course.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Coordination
Plan, organize, and supervise all varsity boys golf practices, competitions, and team activities.
Develop and implement practice plans designed to improve individual and team performance.
Attend and supervise all scheduled matches, tournaments, meetings, and team events.
Submit a complete seasonal calendar at the start of the season, including practices, competitions, meetings, and other program activities.
Communicate schedules, expectations, and updates to student-athletes, parents, and staff.
Enter all practices, competitions, and events into the district's facility use software (FMX), as applicable.
Ensure compliance with all district, conference, and MHSAA regulations.
Recruitment & Program Promotion
Promote the golf program and encourage student participation.
Foster a culture of sportsmanship, commitment, accountability, and teamwork.
Support the overall growth and positive reputation of the golf program.
Budget & Resource Management
Maintain working knowledge of the program's budget.
If applicable, collect and deposit funds in accordance with Board of Education policy.
Monitor and manage expenses to ensure compliance with district procedures.
Assist with inventory, maintenance, and accountability of program equipment and uniforms.
Student Development
Instruct student-athletes in golf fundamentals, rules, techniques, and course management strategies.
Promote leadership, self-discipline, teamwork, and personal responsibility.
Encourage academic success and positive citizenship.
Provide mentorship and constructive feedback to support individual and team growth.
Prioritize student-athlete health, safety, and well-being at all times.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise student-athletes individually and in group settings during practices, competitions, travel, and team activities.
May oversee assistant coaches, volunteers, and parent helpers as assigned.

Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with students, parents, staff, officials, and community members.

Physical Demands
Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and listen.
Occasionally required to bend, stoop, kneel, or lift equipment.
May lift or move objects up to 50 pounds.
Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision.
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Noise levels vary depending on practices, competitions, and event settings.
Compensation
Compensation is in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between Richmond Community Schools and MEA-Local 1/Richmond Education Association (REA).
