Job Description
7th Grade Cheer Coach The 7th Grade Cheer Coach is responsible for leading, developing, and managing the middle school cheer team. This role includes teaching cheers, chants, basic stunts, sidelines, and performance routines while promoting school spirit, teamwork, discipline, and a positive experience for student-athletes. Key Responsibilities Plan and teach cheers, chants, halftime routines, and game-day performances Schedule and lead regular practices, including stretching, conditioning, and skill development Supervise students during practices, games, performances, travel, and events Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and school spirit among team members Coordinate tryouts, including judging, team selection, and communication with participants Ensure all routines, music, stunts, and performances meet school and district guidelines Maintain communication with school administration, parents, athletic departments, and students Organize uniforms, pom-poms, music, signs, and other team-related materials Monitor academic progress and eligibility of team members Ensure compliance with school policies and any applicable athletic or cheer organization rules Assist with fundraising efforts and program needs Provide a safe environment and enforce proper cheer and stunt techniques to prevent injuries Encourage positive behavior and represent the school in a professional manner Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent Experience in cheerleading, dance, gymnastics, or a related activity Previous coaching, teaching, mentoring, or leadership experience with students Knowledge of basic cheer motions, chants, jumps, sidelines, and beginner stunting techniques Ability to manage and motivate middle school students in a structured environment Strong communication and organizational skills Availability for after-school practices, evenings, and occasional weekend events Preferred Prior cheer coaching experience Background in competitive cheer or school spirit programs CPR/First Aid certification Experience with fundraising and event coordination Knowledge of middle school athletic and cheer guidelines Physical Requirements Ability to demonstrate cheer motions, jumps, chants, and basic routines Stand, move, and actively participate during practices and performances Lift and carry equipment or supplies as needed Work Environment School gymnasiums, athletic fields, auditoriums, and outdoor venues Evening and occasional weekend commitments required Travel for games, performances, and events may be required
