Job Description
DIRECTOR OF COACHING
The Director of Coaching leads AAGA's gymnastics program, including curriculum and level plans, coach training and mentorship, athlete development and safety, and class and team scheduling. The Director of Coaching also serves as Head Coach of the Aviators competitive team. This position reports to the Executive Director and works in close partnership with that role on staffing, scheduling, budget, and family communication. This role ensures smooth day-to-day program operations, a high-quality gymnastics program, and excellent customer service for families.

Employment Type:
Full-time, hourly position; approximately 32-40 hours per week on average, with higher hours during busy times such as each session's Schedule creation, the Aviator competition season, the showcase, etc.
Work Location:
Onsite at the AAGA facility.
Reports to:
Executive Director.
Supervises:
All AAGA coaching staff, including the Program Support Coach.
Qualifications:
5+ years of gymnastics experience as a coach and/or gymnast (competitive level) of which at least 2 years is coaching experience. Experience supervising, training, or mentoring other coaches. Working knowledge of skill progressions. Demonstrated ability to spot safely and teach sound progressions across all events. Strong communication skills with athletes, parents, and staff, including the ability to handle difficult conversations calmly and professionally. Organizational skills to create and manage schedules, registrations, and other gymnastics related events. Comfortable learning and using registration software (Scoreflippers) and skilled in microsoft office and gmail/mydrive to create documents and spreadsheets. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Program & Curriculum Develop and/or update gymnastics curriculum for PK classes, Level classes, and our competition team. Update Recreational Levels and PK Skill Requirement forms as needed. Plan drills and stations for clinics and camps. Review program offerings annually with the Executive Director and recommend additions or changes based on enrollment, retention, and family feedback. Coaching Classes Coach AAGA classes regularly as needed. Serve as the Team Program Coordinator/Head Coach for the Aviators competition team — see the Aviators Team Program section below for what this includes. Coach Development & Supervision Assist Executive Director in interviewing and hiring coaching staff. Train new coaches in on AAGA class expectations, spotting, and teaching progressions. Mentor all AAGA coaches through daily and weekly communication and check-ins. Verify and track that every coach has completed their SafeSport training. Ensure coaches understand AAGA's gymnast skill reporting procedures. Supervise the Program Support Coach's assignments. Manage subs and session staffing. Collect coach surveys and self-evaluations after each session. Conduct periodic coach reviews & recommend raises with the Executive Director. Plan coach meetings, spotting clinics, bonding events, and a Christmas party. Athlete Placement & Progress Evaluate new and prospective gymnasts and recommend class or level placement at AAGA. Monitor gymnasts regarding AAGA's skills and level progressions. Communicate with parents about their gymnast's skills, progress, and behavior. Oversee skill recognition programs (Split Wall, Ring-A-Ding, Kip Cookie, etc.). Gymnast Safety & Protection Follow up with parents regarding gymnast injuries within 24 hours of injury. Maintain a file of injuries and submit a report to our insurance company as needed. Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by Minnesota's mandated reporter law Ensure SafeSport guidelines are followed by all AAGA employees. Scheduling & Registration In coordination with the
Executive Director and Program Support Coach:
Create session schedules - monitor registrations and adjust schedules as needed. Schedule, plan, and coordinate camps and clinics. Help the Program Support Coach prepare coach binders (rosters, gymnast sheets) for each session. Manage private lesson scheduling & payment receipts. Coordinate birthday parties (including scheduling coach & hosting if needed). Manage open gym scheduling & maintain payments received. Manage miscellaneous events (Kid Stay & Play & sleepover, etc.). Communication Attend weekly leadership meetings with the Executive Director to align on staffing, programming, gymnast and family needs, events, and facility matters. Attend board meetings to provide a program update. Respond promptly to parent questions and requests regarding gymnasts. Escalate parent complaints, personnel concerns, and safety incidents to the Executive Director. Aviators Team Program Coordinator & Head Coach Set the competitive team's annual training schedule, create practice plans, and assign team coaches. Determine tryout criteria and hold gymnast tryouts, select and invite gymnasts to team, and hold a preliminary informational parent meeting. Choose and order team competition apparel (comp leo, warm-up jacket, etc). Register athletes and coaches for MYGym membership, choose meets to attend or host, and submit meet entries, scratches, and entry fees by each meet's deadline. Ensure all gymnasts have floor and beam routines (choreograph as needed) and determine what skills each gymnast will perform. Serve as head coach at meets, including ensuring coach coverage for every competing athlete, warm-up and rotation management, lineup decisions, and communication with meet directors and judges. Communicate season calendar and meet-day logistics with families, including schedules, arrival times, attire, and travel information. Maintain the team handbook, including attendance, commitment, and athlete and family code of conduct expectations, and address violations with the Executive Director. For AAGA home meets, coordinate the judges, volunteers, and event logistics with the Executive Director. Make payment to the judges. Determine admission and concessions. Coordinate periodic team bonding events (big sister/little sister match, secret santa, sleepover, pizza party, etc). Organize end-of-year banquet with season awards and recognitions. Annual AAGA Showcase Coordinate The Executive Director holds overall responsibility for event logistics. Determine gymnast participation, coach staffing, and program including routines, rotations, costumes, and the rehearsal schedule. The Director of Coaching holds responsibility for gymnast performances. Gym Safety & Compliance Biweekly equipment safety checks, documented on a written checklist retained by the Executive Director. Ensure gym cleanliness and safety standards. Report facility and equipment repair needs to the Executive Director promptly, and remove unsafe equipment from use until it is repaired. Ensure all coaches know AAGA's current emergency, injury, and severe weather procedures, and that it is visibly posted in the gym. Payroll Approve Payroll hours for coaching staff and submit to the Executive Director. Recommend raises/bonuses for review with the Executive Director.
