Benefits N/A Contract Type COACH Bargaining Unit None Revised Date 02/12/2026 PURPOSE The Columbia Public School District is seeking an Assistant Coach to help maintain the Boys and Girls Cross Country.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Maintain the Cross-Country program. Maintaining positive communication with teachers, patrons and parents of athletes and potential athletes. Assist with coordinating off-season camps and conditioning programs. Encouraging good sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the sport. Collaborating with other coaches to ensure a comprehensive approach to athletes. Ensuring compliance with MSHAA. Maintaining statistics on all players. Get along and do tasks assigned by the Head Coach. Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:

60 hours of college credit is required; Missouri Substitute teaching certificate is required; Sport First Aid Course is required. MSHSAA Coaches Courses.

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree; Missouri teaching certificate; Prior teaching/coaching experience. Ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Identify needs and abilities of individual students and to adapt instructional methods accordingly; establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, administrators, and parents; perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Technology:

Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use; Use district software for finding student information; Utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district.

Physical Demands:

Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously; Move around a classroom, gymnasium, and playing field; Read handwritten or printed material

Attendance:

Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position: Requires frequent evening and/or weekend work related to practice and competition; Evenings and/or weekends travel to accompany students to games and meets.

Sensory Requirements:

The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking.

Conditions and Environment:

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. The individual will be required to work outdoors.
