Job Description

Hiring Department Intercollegiate Athletics Job Description The University of Missouri Department of Athletics is seeking an energetic and driven Assistant Tennis Coach to support its NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Program competing in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Reporting to the Head Women's Tennis Coach, this position will focus primarily on coaching, recruiting, match preparation, and student-athlete development. The successful candidate must bring high energy, strong recruiting instincts, and a passion for developing elite student-athletes. Key Responsibilities 1. Coaching and Player Development (45%)
  • Assist with all daily practice planning and court instruction.
  • Teach technical fundamentals, tactics, and match strategy.
  • Conduct individual development sessions with student-athletes.
  • Prepare players for singles and doubles competition.
  • Assist with scouting reports and opponent preparation.
  • Provide in-match coaching and competitive adjustments.
  • Track player progress and performance metrics.
  • Promote daily standards of discipline, effort, and accountability.
  • Support strength, conditioning, and recovery coordination.
  • Help create a positive and competitive training environment. 2. Recruiting (35%)
  • Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes.
  • Build relationships with junior programs, academies, clubs, and families.
  • Maintain regular communication with recruiting targets.
  • Coordinate recruiting visits and campus experiences.
  • Travel for recruiting events and tournaments as permitted.
  • Evaluate video, rankings, and live competitions.
  • Assist with transfer portal recruiting efforts.
  • Help organize recruiting databases and prospect lists.
  • Support roster retention initiatives.
  • Represent Missouri Tennis professionally throughout the recruiting process. 3. Student-Athlete Support and Mentorship (10%)
  • Provide mentorship and leadership support to team members.
  • Encourage academic accountability and personal growth.
  • Help student-athletes transition successfully into the program.
  • Foster strong team chemistry and culture. 4. Operations and Compliance (10%)
  • Assist with travel, scheduling, equipment, and match operations.
  • Coordinate video and analytics tools.
  • Ensure adherence to NCAA, SEC, and University rules.
  • Collaborate with internal support staff across the department.
Shift Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm; Nights, Weekends, and Travel as required. Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in related/ relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Preferred Qualifications Prior NCAA Coaching experience is preferred. Anticipated Hiring Range Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
