To Be Determined Job Description 2026-27 School Year Purpose Statement The job of the Swim Coach was established for the purpose of educating and elevating students and the community through swimming and aquatics while guiding the development of healthy swimming and building good character, while creating equitable accessibility for everyone to learn water safety, swimming, and lifetime wellness activities. This job reports to Aquatic Director Essential Functions Adheres to District policies and procedures for the purpose of maintaining the safety and integrity of the swim program. Assists in the administrative aspects of team activities (e.g. meet selection, planning and registration; scheduling for all training groups; maintaining team statistics; and team promotion locally and within Local and USA Swimming; writes newsletter and articles for website, social media, and local newspaper.) for the purpose of maintaining organization and team growth. Assists with maintaining a variety of records (e.g. attendance sheets, activity records, pool water chemistry, etc.) for the purpose of providing written reference, conveying information and/or meeting mandated requirements. Assists in organizing volunteers, attend Advisory Board meetings, assist and attend socials and season ending events for the purpose of building a strong team environment. Initiates, develops and maintains positive relationships with participants for the purpose of maintaining a positive and cohesive atmosphere. Collaborates and mentors assistant coaching sta? for the purpose of motivating and inspiring coaching staff and swimmers at all levels, from developmental through national level. Maintains current certifications in good standing with USA Swimming for the purpose of complying with rules and regulations. Promotes Aquatic programs and services for the purpose of increasing awareness and services available to the community. Recruits and retains athletes who swim into their high school and college years and who qualify for championship opportunities for the purpose of supporting and growing the swim program. Responds to parent and swimmer inquiries and complaints in timely manner for the purpose of providing appropriate information and providing resolution of issues. Serves as primary, on-deck coach of all level training groups for the purpose of ensuring safety, proper technique and swimmer development. Supervises the activities of swimmers for the purpose of enforcing safety, rules and regulations for all patrons, guests, and participants. Works well on a coaching staff to ensure all coaches have thorough understanding and knowledge base for group placement and advancement of athletes and serves as on-deck coach of lower-level training groups as needed for the purpose of developing swimmers to their best ability. Utilizes various social media platforms for the purpose of promoting team communication and program awareness. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: ability to swim, tread water, etc.; administer first aid, rescue breathing, and CPR; monitoring activities; managing staff/performance; effective listening; and guiding others.
KNOWLEDGE
is required to perform basic math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: first aid and CPR; rescue procedures; and safety practices. ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: physical stamina; working flexible hours; teamwork; and communication with persons of diverse backgrounds/knowledge/skills. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: getting wet, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment. Experience Minimum of one year of coaching and managerial experience with a proven record of success and/or high-level competitive swimming experience at the club or collegiate level. Management and communication with all levels of swimmers and related parties. Experience with Team Unify for meet entry and other group software management related programs. Education High School Diploma or equivalent. Required Testing Continued testing as needed to retain required certifications Continuing Educ./Training Renew Training, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer on a yearly basis; challenge or recertify as a lifeguard every two years; AED and Lifeguarding certification; safety training for swim coaches
