This coach/sponsor/advisor position is responsible for the overall management, administration, and leadership of the program. Accountability The Head Coach/Sponsor/Advisor is accountable to the Director of Activities of Lutheran High School for the performance of his/her responsibilities as outlined. Annual performance goals may be established. Terms of Service The Head Coach/Sponsor/Advisor is an "at will" employee, a status understood under Missouri law to be one in which the relationship between the school and the employee may be terminated at any time with or without cause. It is assumed that, given a positive performance review, employment will be ongoing. Stipends are established as outlined in the current Personnel Handbook. This position is temporary part time. Ministers to faculty, parents, students, alumni, and other members of the Association. Leads as a servant, promotes consistent servant leadership and Christ-centered decision making. Models the Christian faith in professional & personal activities. Conveys the Association's mission with passion clearly and directly. Qualifications Required - Bachelor's degree and 3 years coaching/mentoring experience with high school youth. Preferred - Teacher at LHS and coaching certification with MSHSAA and NFHS and head coaching experience and sport experience at the collegiate level. Positional Responsibilities Recruit, train, and coach the members of the program. Coordinate the development and promotion of the activities program. Hire, train, evaluate and assign responsibilities to assistant coaches and volunteer coaches. Maintain a personal appearance that is a role model of cleanliness, modesty, and good taste and in agreement with school policy. Pray with your student/athletes daily, demonstrating your role as a spiritual and activity leader. Superior technical knowledge of the sport, highly organized and able to meet deadlines, and ability to manage/communicate effectively with student-athletes, administrators and staff members. Manage and supervise all activities, contests, and practice sessions that promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Generate additional funds to support the program, with guidance/support from the AD. Organize and schedule practice sessions with approval of the Activities Director. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of each student athlete. Have the ability to merge knowledge of the sport with the current and future student's individual skill sets. Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities, both in the classroom and athletic facilities. Appropriately monitor and supervise the locker room. Be on site at least 15 minutes before any practice and stay until the last participant leaves. Keep records of participant injuries noting the type, time and course of action for all injuries. Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required. Assign and collect school issued uniforms and equipment. Inform participants and their parents of any uniform fees and keep accurate records. Maintain proper and appropriate discipline among students during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property. Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, staff and others by treating others with friendliness, dignity and consideration. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with student athletes and their parents. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement. Establish rapport in the Lutheran, and St. Louis coaching community (high schools and colleges). Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as assigned. Familiarity of Missouri State High School Activities (MSHSAA), National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) and Archdiocesan Athletic Association (AAA) regulations.
