Job Description

Summary We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to lead the Envirothon team at Hamilton High School as a Head Coach for the 2026-27 season. This position involves guiding students through environmental science competitions, fostering teamwork, and promoting a greater understanding of natural resource management. The ideal candidate will inspire students to engage with ecological issues, develop critical thinking skills, and work collaboratively in a competitive environment. Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement training programs that cover topics such as ecology, forestry, soil science, wildlife, and aquatic science.
  • Organize and lead regular practice sessions, ensuring that students are well-prepared for competitions.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive team environment that encourages student participation and growth.
  • Collaborate with school staff, parents, and community organizations to enhance the learning experience and promote the Envirothon program.
  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to help them improve their knowledge and skills.
  • Coordinate logistics for competitions, including transportation, registration, and materials needed for events.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and environmental stewardship.
  • Maintain communication with students and their families regarding schedules, expectations, and team updates.
  • Attend workshops or training sessions as necessary to stay current with curriculum developments and competition guidelines. Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, education, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience coaching or mentoring students, particularly in environmental education or science-related programs.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental science topics and the ability to convey complex concepts in an engaging manner.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and community members.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, during the competition season.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing team logistics and schedules.
  • A passion for environmental issues and a commitment to fostering student interest in the field.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check per School Board policy.
