The Head Powerlifting Coach is responsible for leading the development, training, and performance of powerlifting athletes across all experience levels. This position oversees programming, coaching standards, athlete development, meet preparation, and the overall direction of the powerlifting program.
The ideal candidate is an experienced powerlifting coach with a strong understanding of strength development, competition preparation, athlete management, and evidence-based programming.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and oversee individualized and team-based powerlifting programs.
Coach athletes in the squat, bench press, and deadlift, with an emphasis on proper technique, progression, and injury prevention.
Lead training sessions and provide hands-on coaching, feedback, and technical instruction.
Assess athlete performance and make programming adjustments based on training data, recovery, and competition goals.
Prepare athletes for local, regional, national, and/or international powerlifting competitions.
Develop meet-day strategies, including attempt selection, warm-ups, and competition management.
Track athlete progress through training logs, performance testing, and regular assessments.
Establish and maintain coaching standards and best practices across the program.
Mentor and develop assistant coaches and other training staff.
Foster a positive, disciplined, competitive, and team-oriented training environment.
Communicate effectively with athletes regarding goals, expectations, performance, and development.
Stay current with developments in strength training, sports science, recovery, and powerlifting rules.
Ensure training practices prioritize athlete safety and long-term development.
Represent the organization professionally at competitions, events, and community activities.
Qualifications
Proven experience coaching powerlifting athletes.
Strong technical knowledge of the squat, bench press, and deadlift.
Demonstrated understanding of strength programming, periodization, fatigue management, and competition preparation.
Experience coaching athletes through powerlifting competitions.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively with athletes of varying ages, experience levels, and abilities.
CPR/AED and first-aid certification preferred or required.
Relevant coaching certification or formal education in exercise science, strength and conditioning, kinesiology, or a related field preferred.
Preferred Experience
Competitive powerlifting experience.
Experience coaching high-level or nationally competitive athletes.
Experience managing a powerlifting team or strength program.
Familiarity with applicable powerlifting federation rules and regulations.
Experience developing junior, collegiate, or elite-level athletes.
