- Independent contractor
- Port Chester, NY
- Mon / Wed / Fri evenings We are growing our skill development clinics for our youngest players, and we are looking for coaches who love the fundamentals.
If your idea of a great session is thirty minutes of first touch — both feet, all surfaces — with kids laughing and asking for one more rep, you will feel at home here. This role is about building the foundation, not running tactics: the coach who lights up when a seven-year-old finally nails a move is the coach we want. About Pitch Gladiators Pitch Gladiators Soccer Academy is a family-founded, bilingual youth club that has coached across Stamford (CT), Port Chester (NY) and Crawford Park (NY) since 2022. We were built on one conviction: youth soccer should develop the whole child, not just the player. Every PG session develops the athlete (coordination, agility, body control), the player (technique and decisions) and the human being (discipline, respect, love of the game, emotion management). Our families come from many backgrounds and football cultures, and our sessions run in English and Spanish so every player is coached in the language they understand best. Whatever a kid's first language or where their family is from, our job is to make sure they feel they belong on our field. About the role You will co-run an ongoing skill development clinics for players in the first phase of development, ages 5-8 (U6-U9), when the windows for skill acquisition are widest.
Success looks like this:
by the end of a clinic block, every player in your group has better ball mastery with both feet, moves better than when they arrived, and cannot wait for the next session. You report to Edwin Cozar Jr. and the Head Coach on a regular basis and work alongside the PG coaching staff. Sessions follow the PG methodology, and you have room to bring your own drills and personality inside it. This is a coaching role, not a supervising one: you are on the ball, demonstrating, correcting and playing with the kids for the whole session. What you'll do Plan and run a 75-minute clinic session (6:00-7:15 PM) on the PG session structure: opening ritual, activation and coordination, technical block, game-realistic block, small-sided game, closing ritual. Demonstrate every skill yourself — first touch, dribbling moves, passing and receiving, striking with both feet — cleanly enough that a six-year-old can copy it. Coach through demo, do, correct, progress: high repetition, both feet, all surfaces, with an individual correction for every player in your group. Weave 5-10 minutes of coordination and agility work into every session (footwork patterns, ladders, jumps and landings, change of direction) so athletic development lives inside the soccer. Manage the emotional side of the group: name what is happening, give a player space when they need it, bring them back into the work, and never end a session on a reprimand. Arrive at 5:15 PM to set up the fields for the evening's sessions — yours and the other coaches' — including field layout, markings and equipment, before the first player arrives. Tear down and clear the field by 7:30 PM, and send a short post-session recap to Edwin Cozar Jr. or the Head Coach within 12 hours. Model the four PG values — discipline, respect, love of the game, emotion management — with players and parents alike. What we're looking for Required A current coaching license: US Soccer Grassroots (4v4, 7v7 or 9v9) or higher, or an equivalent license from another federation. Experience coaching youth players ages 5-10 in clinics, camps, academy or recreational teams. Comfortable demonstrating the skills and fundamentals of the game yourself. You can show a move, not just describe it. Able to commit to Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, 5:15-7:30 PM, for the full clinic block. Reliable transportation to Port Chester Middle School. Preferred Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus. Many of our parents and players are bilingual, and being able to adapt to and manage both languages — on the field with players and on the sideline with families — is a real advantage. Playing experience at the academy, college, semi-pro or professional level.
Coordination or agility experience:
futsal, athletics, gymnastics, dance, or speed and agility training. Experience with the youngest ages (U6-U8), where sessions are built on games and stories, not lines and lectures.
