Job Description

What You Will Do Responsible for providing proper and safe swim instruction for those learning how to swim, to those who need skills enhanced. Learn, monitor, and enforce relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. React to and handle emergencies in a safe and effective manner. Plan and organize swim instruction participants in either individual or small group sessions. Additional Responsibilities May be assigned to serve as a camp counselor, as needed, supporting youth programs and insuring a safe, engaging environment for participants. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace. Candidate must be available to teach swim lessons during evenings and weekends and be willing to maintain a minimum teaching load of at least 10 clients per week. Education Current High School Student (Preferred) or High School Equivalent / GED (Preferred) Work Experience 1+ years swim instruction (Required) Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to work with children and adults who cannot swim. (Required proficiency) Experience in working with learn-to-swim equipment. (Required proficiency) Strong communication skills with parents/guardians of children whom lessons are provided. (Required proficiency) Licenses and Certifications Water Safety Instructor (WSI) from the American Red Cross or equivalent nationally recognized organization.
