Non-Exempt, HourlyJOB PURPOSE
The Swim Instructor provides high-quality swim instruction to participants of all ages using YMCA of the USA and YMCA of Greater Tulsa curriculum standards. This role ensures a safe, engaging, and positive learning environment while promoting water safety, confidence, and skill development. Swim Instructors serve as positive role models and work collaboratively with staff to support YMCA programs and mission.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(not a complete list): Provide safe, engaging, and effective swim instruction following YMCA lesson plans and standards Maintain constant supervision of participants to ensure safety at all times Demonstrate and teach progressive swim skills using proper technique and cueing Enforce pool safety rules and respond appropriately to emergencies Build positive relationships with participants, parents, and coworkers through clear communication and professionalism Accurately track and document participant progress, skill achievement, and attendance Maintain current certifications and complete all required trainings Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings as required Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures regarding the prevention of abuse. Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or misconduct immediately to the appropriate supervisory staff. Attend mandatory training on abuse prevention, including recognizing signs of abuse, and reporting requirements. Abide by the YMCA's four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect & Responsibility. Must be at least 16 years of age Ability to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards Current CPR, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Certification or ability to obtain upon hire Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to work effectively with participants of all ages Reliable attendance and punctualityPreferred:
Previous swim instruction or aquatics experience Bilingual (English/Spanish)Benefits
