Job Purpose Statement:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide coaching assistance to the Alpine Ski team, as well as assisting in duties and responsibilities assigned by head ski coach. Assist in the leadership and organization of high school ski program. Lead in establishing an environment in which student/athletes can gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image. Assist in directing the promotion of sportsmanship, equity, a winning attitude and commitment to student academic success.

Essential Job Functions Provides lead direction and supervision of organized practices sessions during the regulated season; to include seasonal goals and objectives.

Work cooperatively with parents, other coaches, staff, and support programs.

Assists the Head Ski Coach and Athletic Director in maintaining the care for athletic facilities and aid in preparation of the facilities for athletic competition.

Assists Head Ski Coach and Athletic Director in purchasing equipment, supplies and uniforms for the particular sport.

Assists Head Ski Coach and Athletic Director in event scheduling when needed.

Assist in the responsibility to conduct pre-season meeting with all athletes and parents, outlining schedules, student athletic contracts, and Student Athletic Handbook.

Works to improve skills and knowledge of each athlete and the team as a whole.

Enforces appropriate team expectations and team discipline.

Follows guidelines and principles of sportsmanship.

Maintains regular and consistent attendance to fulfill the terms of the coaching contract.

Adheres to requirements of athletic eligibility.

Adheres to District Athletic Handbook, Standard Operating Procedures of league or other governing body rules.

Works harmoniously with the high school Head Ski Coach, community volunteers, parents, and school personnel.

Communicates effectively (both orally and written) with students, parents, officials, and staff, the media and other teams.

Assists in submitting rosters, equipment and uniform inventories and other reports as required.

Assists the Head Ski Coach with coordination of communications, events and the end of season awards ceremony,

Assists in monitoring expenditures in relation to budget and assist as in monitoring proper use, care, and return of uniforms and other assigned equipment.

Leads the supervision and/or arranges for proper supervision of student athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and related activities for the Alpine Ski Team.

Assists in the coordination and responsibility of all media communications at the high school level related to the HRVHS Alpine Ski team.

Consults with Head Ski Coach, Athletic Director and Administration concerning playing conditions, safety concerns, program improvements, player performance, outside complaints, and other related matters.

Skills, Knowledge and/or

Abilities Required:

Skills possessed will exemplify a moral character that is consistent with being a positive role model for high school students.

Knowledge of alpine skiing at the high school level, to include any recent rule changes. Through cooperation and communication with HRVHS Head Ski Coach, assist in the development of a system of competition that can be effectively communicated with to implement at the high school level. Knowledge and ability of how to communicate effectively with athletes and parents.

Ability to work harmoniously with others. To organize and manage students time effectively. To use problem solving strategies consistently. Adjusts to performing practices in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations.

Experience Required:

Prior experience coaching skiing is preferred

Subject knowledge of Alipine Skiing and competitions Ability to collaborate with youth programs, students, parents, the community, staff, and other HRVHS coaches

Ability to coach in collaboration with other coaches

Willingness to coach after school, travel, and supervise students

Meet attendance requirements of the position

Possess current First Aid and CPR certification

Successful high school coaching experience preferred

Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred

Successful fundraising experience

In school recruitment of athletes and team building

Education Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent. College degree Preferred.

Experience Required:

Previous experience coaching skiing preferred.

Licenses, Certifications or Bonding Required:

NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification or ASEP Certifications; Concussion training, Heat Illness Prevention, Performance enhancing Drugs & Substances Training, First Aid/CPR Certification.

Required Testing:

Any offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of:

Compensation will be through an Extra Duty Coaching Contract. Step placement is made by the Human Resources Department, and is based on verified prior paid coaching experience in the same sport at the same responsibility level.
