POSITION SUMMARY
The Head Swim Team Coach / Aquatics Operations Coordinator supports the work of the Carlisle Family YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This full-time position is responsible for overseeing and growing the YMCA's competitive swim team program while supporting operations at the Carlisle Family YMCA Aquatics Center (CYAC). This position provides direct leadership, instruction, and mentorship to swimmers and coaching staff while also serving as a key operational support role for aquatic events, rentals, swim meets, and facility functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Lead and oversee all aspects of the YMCA competitive swim team program including developmental, age group, and senior-level training groups. 2. Plan and conduct high-quality swim practices, stroke instruction, dryland activities, and seasonal training progression. 3. Develop schedules, meet entries, lineups, race strategies, and championship preparation for swimmers and teams. 4. Attend and provide leadership at all assigned practices, swim meets, team events, and program functions (Evenings and Weekends Required). 5. Recruit, supervise, mentor, schedule, and evaluate assistant coaches and volunteer staff. 6. Support the planning, coordination, setup, and execution of hosted swim meets, aquatic events, and facility rentals at CYAC. 7. Operate and assist with management of swim meet software, timing systems, touchpads, scoreboards, pace clocks, and related competition equipment. 8. Assist with facility scheduling, rental coordination, event logistics, setup, tear down, and customer service for aquatic rentals and hosted events. 9. Maintain knowledge of aquatic facility systems including filtration systems, pumps, timing systems, scoreboard systems, and aquatic equipment. 10. Ensure compliance with YMCA Child Protection policies, SafeSport standards, YMCA Competitive Swimming standards, and applicable governing body requirements. 11. Maintain required program documentation including participation records, meet information, communication materials, certifications, and operational reports. 12. Collaborate with YMCA leadership to support operational goals, strategic growth, facility utilization, and participant experiences. 13. Perform all other duties as assigned in a timely and professional manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum age of 21 years old.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of competitive swim coaching experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of competitive swimming techniques, training progression, and meet operations.
- Experience with Hy-Tek Meet Manager, TeamUnify, SportsEngine, Colorado Timing Systems, scoreboards, and related technology preferred.
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
- Working knowledge of aquatic facility systems and operations preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to stand, walk, swim, bend, kneel, and actively coach for extended periods of time.
- Ability to demonstrate all competitive swimming strokes and techniques.
- Ability to work in warm, humid aquatic environments for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to assist with aquatic event setup and facility preparation.
- Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational needs.
