Job Description

Position Summary This position is responsible for the administration of a designated Dickinson Men's and Women's Cross Country program. The Head Coach is responsible for managing a sufficient roster of student-athletes while making both academic and athletic success a priority and embracing the Division III liberal arts experience. The position is responsible for recruiting and developing student athletes, organizational and fiscal management of the program, scheduling and conducting practices and the implementation of competition strategies. Essential Functions Educate and develop student-athletes to prepare them for success within the Cross Country and Track & Field programs, the classroom, and the broader Dickinson community. Plan and implement meaningful training and learning experiences that challenge student-athletes to excel academically, athletically, and personally. Support academic achievement, leadership development, and personal growth through mentoring, communication, and regular individual check-ins. Prepare student-athletes for successful competition through physical conditioning, race strategy, and the implementation and instruction of innovative, evidence-based training techniques. Provide effective coaching and leadership during practices, training sessions, competitions, and team activities. Foster a positive, inclusive, and cohesive team culture. 50% Recruit qualified student-athletes to Dickinson through attending camps, showcases, games, practices, etc. Initiate and maintain communication with prospective recruits through letters, email, telephone calls, social media, home visits and hosting/coordinating on-campus visits based on NCAA compliance standards and regulations. 30% Management of operational/administrative functions. Oversees the fiscal/budgetary components for assigned intercollegiate program. Schedule all practices and competitive events. Organizes team travel, meals, and overnight accommodations. Participate in live scouting, utilization of video, and develops winning traditions within respective sport. In collaboration with the Athletic Director, hires and supervises assistant coaching staff. 10% Maintain relationships and engages with alumni athletes and parents through telephone calls, social media, letters, emails, and creating/attending alumni events. Assists in raising funds for the athletic department. Plan and implement community programming such as clinics, camps, and service opportunities, etc. 10% Other Duties and Responsibilities Service on various committees within Athletics Department. Orientation of students to the department/facilities. Represent Dickinson College at various speaking engagements, as requested. Participate on the student conduct resolution process, as requested. Attend monthly department meetings. Maintain accurate program records including credit card receipts. Participate in game administration for department events. Work cooperatively with department offices, including marketing and communications, athletic training and equipment staffs in promotion and operation of intercollegiate program. Work with the College's maintenance and housekeeping staff to ensure proper and efficient operation of facilities. Other duties as determined or assigned. Supervision Supervises work of others, including planning, assigning, and scheduling work, reviewing work, and ensuring quality standards, training staff and overseeing their productivity. May offer recommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments, but does not have responsibility for making these decisions. Education/Requirements Bachelor's degree, required. Master's degree, preferred.

This position is subject to the Pennsylvania Act 153 Clearance consisting of the Pennsylvania Criminal History Record Information Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Certification, and Federal Criminal History Record Information Check pursuant to Pennsylvania law and Dickinson College policy. This position requires a valid driver's license for the operation of a company-owned, rented, or leased vehicle. Experience 3 to 5 years of relevant experience. Independence of Action Results are defined; incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Employees work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions.

Temperatures typically below 32 degrees for more than an hour.

Temperatures about 100 degrees for more than an hour.

Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals.
