Job Description:
The PennWest University Clarion Golden Eagles Spirit Program is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Head Cheerleading Coach. This role involves supporting the game day cheer team (football, men's/women's basketball, and Wrestling) as well as the Competitive Cheer Team. The position runs from August 2026 to June 30, 2027, and requires flexibility in scheduling, with the expectation of attending 75% of all events and practices. The coach will work under direction of the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation and Clarion Student Association.
Required Qualifications:
  • Collegiate Cheerleading experience preferred o Previous coaching experience at High School, All-star, or College level (4 years of collegiate cheer experience can be substituted for coaching experience)
  • Ability to maintain team discipline and instill proper ethical & moral character.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of coaching, training, and team supervision. o Ability to explain verbally and demonstrate skills is preferred.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of program management; budgeting, recruiting, scheduling, staff supervision, travel planning, etc.
  • Knowledge and ability to coach both all-girl and co-ed stunting skills & spot basic tumbling skills.
  • USA Cheer Coach & Stunt certification or a willingness to acquire promptly.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, written and oral communication skills.
  • Organization, professionalism, and possess a passion for Cheerleading.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to travel off-campus (including out of town) as required, work evenings & weekends.
Essential Responsibilities:
The Cheer Coach will be responsible for all aspects of developing and coaching the Cheer program including but not limited to:
  • Represent PennWest Clarion Cheer.
  • Ability to operate and following the guidelines set forth by PennWest University Clarion, the Department of Campus Recreation, Clarion Student Association, the NCAA, and PSAC West Conference.
  • Communicate effectively to the Cheer program as well as other University Personnel and Cheer Coaches.
  • Recruitment of student-athletes while also supporting a culture that offers a positive student-athlete experience.
  • Lead and manage the cheerleading program, including game day performances and competitive team activities.
  • Conduct regular practices and training sessions on weekday evenings and weekends.
  • Assist in organizing fundraising activities and special events.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance team performance and safety.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that promotes school spirit and sportsmanship.
  • Maintain effective communication with team members, parents, and university staff.
  • Travel with the team to away games and competitions as required.
  • Attend Summer camps with the squad.
