ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES
The Assistant Men's Soccer Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division II men's soccer program. Responsibilities include coaching, recruiting, administration, student-athlete development, and ensuring full compliance with NCAA, conference (PSAC), and institutional policies. The position emphasizes academic success, athletic excellence, and the holistic development of student-athletes consistent with the NCAA Division II philosophy of "Life in the Balance."
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coaching & Player Development Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting practices and training sessions in accordance with NCAA Division II regulations. Teach and instruct student-athletes in soccer fundamentals, techniques, and advanced strategies. Support individualized development plans to enhance athletic performance. Contribute to game preparation, scouting, and in-game coaching. Recruiting Assist in the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of prospective student-athletes in compliance with NCAA Division II and PSAC rules. Support recruiting communications, evaluations, and campus visits. Promote the program in a manner consistent with institutional goals and NCAA guidelines. Compliance & Administration Ensure strict adherence to NCAA Division II, PSAC, and institutional policies, including recruiting, eligibility, financial aid, and CARA regulations. Complete all required compliance documentation and participate in ongoing rules education. Assist with roster management, eligibility tracking, and team documentation. Student-Athlete Experience & Academic Success Promote academic achievement, retention, and graduation of student-athletes. Monitor academic progress and collaborate with academic support services. Support student-athlete wellness, leadership development, and personal growth. Serve as a positive role model aligned with the mission of Lackawanna College. Team Operations Assist with team travel, including supervision and adherence to college and NCAA policies. Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team activities. Assist with game day operations, scheduling logistics, and team organization. Program Support & Engagement Assist with fundraising efforts and community engagement initiatives. Represent the athletics department and institution in a professional manner at all times. Contribute to a positive culture aligned with NCAA Division II values and departmental goals. Other Duties Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head Men's Soccer Coach or Director of Athletics.
KEY COMPETENCIES
Knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and compliance expectations (or ability to learn immediately). Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain) Knowledge of safety protocols and risk management practices Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree preferred (aligned with NCAA Division II best practices)
EXPERIENCE
