ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES
he Assistant Softball Coach supports the Head Softball Coach in all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division II softball program. This includes the planning, organization, administration, and evaluation of the program, with a primary focus on student-athlete development, NCAA compliance, academic success, and competitive excellence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coaching & Player Development Assist in planning and conducting practices and skill development sessions in alignment with NCAA and institutional guidelines. Teach and instruct student-athletes in sport-specific fundamentals, game strategies, and performance techniques. Contribute to individual and team development plans to enhance competitive performance. Provide instruction that supports the NCAA Division II philosophy of "Life in the Balance," emphasizing holistic student-athlete development. Recruiting Assist with the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA Division II and PSAC rules. Support all recruiting communications, campus visits, and evaluations while maintaining strict adherence to NCAA compliance standards. Compliance & Administration Ensure full compliance with all NCAA Division II, PSAC, and institutional rules and regulations, including recruiting, eligibility, financial aid, CARA (Countable Athletically Related Activities), and playing/practice seasons. Complete all required compliance documentation, education, and reporting in a timely manner. Assist in maintaining accurate records related to team operations, travel, academics, and compliance activities. Student-Athlete Experience Promote academic success, retention, and degree completion of student-athletes. Monitor academic progress and collaborate with academic support services as needed. Foster a positive student-athlete experience, emphasizing leadership development, wellness, and personal responsibility. Serve as a mentor and role model, supporting the personal growth and well-being of student-athletes. Team Operations Assist with team travel, including supervision and adherence to college and NCAA policies. Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and team-related activities. Support game day operations and preparation as assigned by the Head Coach. Program Support & Engagement Assist with fundraising initiatives and alumni/community engagement activities. Represent the athletic department and college in a professional manner at all times. Contribute to a positive department culture aligned with the College's mission and NCAA Division II values. Other Duties Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head Softball Coach or Director of Athletics.
KEY COMPETENCIES
Strong understanding of NCAA Division II rules and compliance expectations (or willingness to obtain immediately). Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes in a collegiate environment. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within athletics. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain) Knowledge of safety protocols and risk management practices Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 50 pounds)
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree preferred (required for NCAA Division II progression and long-term advancement)
EXPERIENCE
