Title:
High School Assistant Defensive Football Coach - South Fayette School District Reports to: High School Head Football Coach South Fayette School District is currently seeking a High School Assistant Defensive Football Coach to help lead and mentor young athletes in a supportive and engaging environment. This role involves assisting in the oversight of the football team, including planning practices, creating routines, fostering team unity, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills while upholding high standards of sportsmanship. This position reports directly to the Head Varsity Coach and collaborates closely with the Athletic Director.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
High school diploma required; college degree in education, sports management, or a related field preferred. Previous coaching experience, particularly at the high school level, is highly desirable.
Certifications & Clearances:
Completion of the following PIAA-required courses: Fundamentals of Coaching (within two years of hire) First Aid, Health, and Safety for Coaches (within two years of hire) Concussion Awareness (yearly) Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness (yearly) All required background clearances, including: Act 34 (PA State Police Criminal History) Act 114 (FBI Criminal History) Act 151 (PA Child Abuse History) Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training. Clearances must be obtained prior to the start of the season and updated every five years.
Skills & Attributes:
Prior experience in football required. Previous coaching experience, particularly at the middle or high school level preferred. Ability to maintain a safe and inclusive environment. Strong commitment to mentoring and developing student-athletes. Strong leadership qualities to motivate and guide athletes. Ability to clearly and effectively communicate in order to convey instructions, provide feedback, and build rapport with athletes. Knowledgeable and skilled in techniques, strategies, and rules of the sport. Ability to analyze situations, make quick responsible decisions, and adapt approach as needed. Strong organizational skills to manage practices, schedules, and team logistics. Ability to efficiently manage time to effectively prepare for practices, games, and other responsibilities. Must have a passion for the sport and a desire to help athletes reach their potential. Must have a positive and encouraging attitude in order to boost team morale and athlete motivation. Must be able to demonstrate integrity for building trust and maintaining a positive coaching environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in planning and implementing practices that teach football fundamentals, strategies, rules, and proper conditioning. Assist in organizing and supervising practice sessions, games, and team events. Assist in monitoring and instructing students on safe techniques. Assist in providing consistent supervision and ensure all athletes are safely picked up following practices and events. Assist in fostering a team culture built on patience, understanding, and respect among teammates. Assist in maintaining regular communication with parents and serve as a positive mentor to student-athletes. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Varsity Coach or Athletic Director.
Terms of Employment:
Terms of employment are in accordance with the South Fayette Township School District policies and procedures. Fall Season (August - November).
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director.
