Job Description

Girard College is seeking a qualified and dedicated Assistant Middle and High School Wrestling Coach to support the development and success of the wrestling program. The Assistant Coach will work under the direction of the Head Wrestling Coach to teach, train, and support middle and high school student-athletes while fostering a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture that reflects the mission and values of Girard College. The Assistant Coach will assist with practices, competitions, conditioning, student-athlete development, team activities, and other program responsibilities. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of wrestling techniques, strategies, rules, conditioning, and safety practices and will work collaboratively with the Head Coach, student-athletes, families, Athletic Department, faculty, and staff. Job Type Seasonal (Winter). Stipend Payment. No benefits. Reports To Athletic Director Head Middle and High School Wrestling Coach Responsibilities The Assistant Wrestling Coach will support the Head Wrestling Coach in the development and operation of the middle and high school wrestling program at Girard College. Responsibilities include assisting with practices, conditioning, competitions, student-athlete development, equipment management, and team activities. The Assistant Coach will support the academic, athletic, personal, and social development of student-athletes and contribute to a positive, high-energy, and inclusive team environment. The Assistant Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Coach and Athletic Director to ensure the wrestling program operates in the best interest of Girard College student-athletes. The Assistant Coach must adhere to all applicable Girard College policies and procedures and the rules and regulations of the Penn-Jersey Athletic Association (P.J.A.A.), Metropolitan Philadelphia Athletic Association (M.P.A.A.), Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (P.A.I.S.A.A.), Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (P.I.A.A.), and other applicable governing organizations. Required Skills Ability to assist with organizing and conducting wrestling practices, training sessions, and competitions. Knowledge of wrestling rules, techniques, strategies, conditioning, and safety practices. Ability to motivate, teach, and support student-athletes while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, leadership, and personal responsibility. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, coaches, administrators, faculty, and staff. Ability to consistently model exemplary sportsmanship and professional conduct. Ability to support the academic, physical, emotional, and social development of adolescent student-athletes. Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching team and follow the direction of the Head Wrestling Coach and Athletic Director. Ability to identify and appropriately communicate concerns involving student-athletes, team activities, or other program matters to the Head Wrestling Coach or Athletic Director. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. Required Duties Assist the Head Wrestling Coach with organizing and conducting open wrestling tryouts. Assist with planning and conducting daily practices, training sessions, and competitions. Assist with implementing in-season and approved off-season conditioning and training programs. Assist with teaching wrestling techniques, strategies, rules, and fundamentals. Support the Head Wrestling Coach in evaluating individual and team performance and providing constructive feedback to student-athletes. Assist with monitoring student-athlete academic progress and communicate academic concerns to the Head Wrestling Coach and appropriate school personnel. Promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, leadership, and personal responsibility. Follow the care plans and recommendations of the athletic training staff regarding the prevention and care of injuries and other health-related concerns. Follow all applicable wrestling safety standards and procedures, including appropriate practices related to weight management, hydration, skin infections, concussion management, and injury prevention. Communicate appropriately and professionally with student-athletes and families regarding schedules, expectations, team activities, and program-related matters as directed by the Head Wrestling Coach. Assist with the distribution, collection, inventory, care, cleaning, and storage of team equipment, uniforms, and supplies. Assist with team transportation to competitions as assigned and follow all applicable school transportation policies. Maintain appropriate conduct and sportsmanship among student-athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators. Enforce Girard College policies, Athletic Department policies, team rules, travel expectations, codes of conduct, and applicable league and governing-body regulations. Report injuries, safety concerns, student-athlete concerns, and significant policy or conduct issues to the Head Wrestling Coach or Athletic Director. Maintain non-discriminatory practices in all team and program activities. Attend Athletic Department and staff meetings as requested by the Athletic Director or Head Wrestling Coach. Perform other wrestling-related duties as assigned by the Head Wrestling Coach or Athletic Director. Hours In-Season The wrestling season generally lasts 8-10 weeks and may extend to approximately 12 weeks if the team participates in postseason competition. The Assistant Wrestling Coach is expected to assist with practices for approximately two hours per day, Monday-Friday, and be available for Saturday practices, competitions, tournaments, or other program activities when necessary. The Assistant Coach is required to attend assigned home and away competitions and other events directly related to the wrestling program. Off-Season The Assistant Wrestling Coach may be expected to assist with approved off-season workouts and conditioning sessions in coordination with the Head Wrestling Coach and Athletic Director. Qualifications A bachelor's degree is preferred. Previous wrestling coaching experience at the middle school, high school, collegiate, or professional level is preferred. The candidate must have completed all required Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) coaching education requirements at the time of hire. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and a willingness to work collaboratively with student-athletes, families, coaches, administration, faculty, staff, and members of the Athletic Department. Required Certifications and Clearances Complete all required PIAA coaching education requirements. Maintain current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications. Pass FBI fingerprint/background check. Pass Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance. Pass Pennsylvania Criminal History Background Check. Possess a valid driver's license with a safe driving record, if required to operate Girard College vehicles. References Please be prepared to provide three (3) professional references from previous employers or organizations familiar with your wrestling coaching experience and qualifications.
