Responsibilities :

Conducting all swim classes in accordance with the YMCA of the USA's Swimming Lesson Program in an enthusiastic and exciting way. Prepared to teach all levels of swimming, maximize swimmer participation every class period, complete and turn in all paperwork as required by supervisor. Communicate student progress to swimmers and/or parents throughout a session with the intention of building meaningful relationships with participants. Maintain a professional and responsible attitude and demeanor at all times, but will additionally demonstrate a genuine spirit of silliness that will provide participants with a sense of wonder and happiness by the end of every lesson. Current certifications in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, and Standard First Aid preferred, but may be completed within 30 days of hire. Achieve the YMCA Swimming Lesson (YSL) Instructor certification within 3 months of attaining a Swim Instructor position. Must be able to pass a swimming skills test, which includes a 300yd swim with proper demonstration of all required strokes, 3 minutes of treading water, and retrieval of a 10 pound weight from 8-10 feet of water. Must be able to teach in hot, humid environments. Must be able to understand the mentality of children of various ages and adults and respond to their varying states of mind in a way that is fun-loving, engaging, and captivating to students.
