Position Summary

Job Summary:

The Scituate School Department is seeking an enthusiastic, inclusive, and student-centered Unified Volleyball Coach to lead the Scituate High School Unified Volleyball program.

The Unified Volleyball Coach is responsible for creating a positive and inclusive athletic experience that brings together students with and without intellectual disabilities as teammates through the Special Olympics Unified Sports model. The coach will promote meaningful participation, teamwork, friendship, sportsmanship, skill development, and a strong sense of belonging for all Unified athletes and partners.

The successful candidate should demonstrate knowledge of volleyball and its rules, an understanding of inclusive coaching practices, and the ability to support students with a wide range of strengths and abilities. Experience working with students with disabilities, Special Olympics, Unified Sports, or inclusive athletic programs is preferred.

The coach will fulfill all responsibilities of the position in accordance with Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL), Special Olympics Rhode Island (SORI), Scituate School Department, and applicable state requirements.

Terms of Employment:

All coaching positions with the Scituate School Department are one-year, at-will appointments.

Note that:

The proposed reappointment of a coach must be reviewed by the Athletic Director and Building Principal based on the evaluation tool. The recommendation for reappointment will be forwarded to the Superintendent each year for approval. Coaches may be required to reapply annually. All coaches shall be selected for a one-year at-will position. The SSD may renew the coaches' employment on an annual basis, contingent on a successful evaluation.

Responsibilities:

• Scituate High School is seeking a Unified Volleyball Coach according to an established interscholastic league schedule.
• Knowledge of Volleyball and its rules.
• Previous coaching experience desired.
• All Coaching positions for the Scituate School Department are one-year, at-will agreements.
• Plan and conduct practices
• Supervise athletes at all times
• Teach sport-specific skills
• Promote sportsmanship
• Ensure player safety
• Communicate with families
• Coordinate transportation and game logistics
• Maintain equipment
• Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director
• Follow district policies and RIIL regulations
• Encourage academic success
• Maintain accurate records
• Attend required meetings and professional development

• Perform other duties as assigned by the administration consistent with the scope of the position.
